BARREN ISLAND, N.Y. – The New England fliers struggle to get their monoplane, Cape Cod, into the air with its tremendous load of 728 gallons of gasoline. The ship meets the test and the aviators wing their way toward Istanbul and fame. The longest single jump on record – 5,000 miles – was made in 49 hours, 17 minutes and beat the distance of 4,912 miles flown by Dieudonne Coste and Maurice Bellonte last year.

CHINCOTEAGUE, VA. – Wild animals, bred on the coast’s salt marshes, are corralled and auctioned to a large crowd at the yearly sale. Hostlers have their troubles keeping the steeds orderly in their first introduction to civilization and the life of a tame horse. The beasts, of a rar line, are believed to have landed on the shore from the wreck of a Spanish trading ship.

Finding it in need of repairs, he makes the necessary corrections and eliminates the danger. McNeill, now well over 50, climbs into the city’s pinnacles every day with the same daring displayed when he was a youth.

ROME, ITALY – Fascist engineers complete the difficult feat which brings to light again the mysterious craft of the mad emperor. The use for which the peculiar ship was built remains undecided but the lore of ancient civilization is revealed by the discoveries of the experts who have been attending the reclamation of the historic vessel. The job has been going on for five years.

The title husband is an ardent aviation fan and is winging over central Europe prior to a hop for England. Attaches of the Rumanian embassy and officials of Austria welcome the couple to the city.

HIGHWAYS FLOODED AS SUDDEN STORMS BREAK LONG DROUTH
LANCASTER, OHIO – The farmers of the Little Miami Valley prayed for rain to end a long dry spell that was taking a severe toll of the crops. The heavens opened and drenched the whole region. The stream was swollen over its banks, inundating roads throughout the area, typing up traffic and bringing the land owners the blessing they asked. Motorists and automobile trucks attempt to span the swift waters but in many cases the vehicles are marooned in the middle of the main highway.

Adjudged guilty of flying without a permit and photographing secret fortifications the heavy penalty is imposed on the Americans. Undaunted, the fliers seek to regain their confiscated ship in an attempt to cross the Pacific on a non-stop flight.

MAUTERNDORF, AUSTRIA – An ancient fete, dating from the era of the Celts, is revived as the richest heiress of this Salzburg village is wed. Picturesque peasants employ odd means to block the peaceful and colorful progress of the marriage procession through the streets seeking gifts from the bride, but the historic pageant and the determined lovers continue regardless of obstacles.

COAST GUARDS FINISH ARMY’S FLOP BOMBING JOB AS NAVY LAUGHS
OFF THE VIRGINIA CAPES – The condemned Shipping Board vessel, Mount Shasta, cut adrift in the sea, proves a tough target for the “expert eyes” of the bombers from Langley Field, who miss the mark by as much as 1,000 feet. The two tries fail to end the career of the aimless hulk and the blue-jackets from the frontier defense show the Air Corps how it is done. The S.S. Masoutin and S.S. Carrabasset steam toward the doomed ship and first set it afire. This done, shells directed by eyes attuned to watery wastes soon find vital spots and the Mount Shasta, much to the chagrin of the Army, dives toward the bottom of the ocean.

HAVANA, CUBS – Fresh from a successful encounter with rebel forces at Gibera, President Machado hastens to the executive Palace to take hold of reins of the national parliament. General Herrera and Admiral Rivero rush through the Central Railroad station, giving scant attention to the hordes waiting to afford them conquerors’ greeting.

RAIN FAILURE CAUSES NATIVE STAMPEDE TO REAP FINNY HARVEST
