TULANE SUBDUED BY TROJAN GRIDDERS IN CLASSIC STRUGGLE
PASADENA, CA – The football season is climaxed by the thrilling battle between the Southern Champions and the Far Western leaders in the annual Tournament of Roses game. Living up to their reputation as a powerful team on the offensive, Southern California drives the Green Wave to a 21-12 defeat but the Greenies fight to the last ditch. In the final quarter don Zimmerman finally gets his overhead game going on all cylinders and drops a pass into Jerry Dalrymple’s hands for a score and follows it closely with another touchdown over a similar route. But the Southern gentlemen start too late, and the mythical national championship goes to the West Coast eleven.

FATHER COX’S ARMY REACHES CAPITAL TO PETITION CONGRESS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Followed by a host of idle, 10,000 strong, the Rev. James R. Cox, of Pittsburgh, presents the damands of the “hunger caravan” to the Federal Government. In Capitol Plaza extra police guards are ordered out as a precautionary measure but the demonstration is peaceful with the marchers concentrating entirely on rations of sauerkraut and frankfurters. After a tedious rain-soaked trek from Pennsylvania, wet but not discouraged, they stand behind their religious leader and urge the solons to action. A $5,000,000,000 bond issue to carry on government building works is asked for jobless relief.

FELINE QUEENS VIE IN SEASON’S OPENING THOROUGHBRED SHOW
NEW YORK, NY – The first meet of the year attracts 136 entries for the Atlantic Cat Club competition. The contenders rank from the Siamese Royal breed and fluffy Persians to ex-alley cats. Rosedear, Dresden Cotton Tom, Sir Boss of Khiva, and Yum Yum strut their stuff and prove to spectators and judges that they deserve to be called “aristo-cats”, in a great exhibit, the proceeds of which go to the fund for unemployed.

EX-CHAMPION RUNNER HOOFS FOR $1,000 PRIZE IN LONG DANCE GRIND
NEWARK, NJ – Joie Ray, one-time world’s greatest middle distance cinder path star, turns to the goofy gallop for the dollars he may win. Teamed with Alice Krug, of St. Albans, NY, he has trudged around Dreamland Park pavilion floor since October 22. And the once great amateur speed king is just as chesty as he was in the palmist days of his career. Necessity drove him to such competition as this, and he declares, he can’t eat the trophies his track activities brought him.

ROME, ITALY – The famous 150-ton equestrian statue dedicated to King Victor Emmanuel II, is put into repair by intrepid sculptors, who erase the ravages of storms and preserve the historic structure for posterity. Armed with mallets and pegs the Federal men jam in the bungs and flood the highway and gutters with $30,000 worth of amber brew, as the Windy City’s parched gullets moan and wail.

TREACHEROUS WINDS CAUSE NEAR-FATALITY AT BOYS’ GLIDER MEET
PALOS VERDE, CA – Caught in a dangerous eddy, Guy Rowell, 13-year old pilot, loses control of his ship and is tossed into the Pacific Ocean. Tragedy is averted by the alert action of a rescue crew that sets out from shore, saving the endangered youth who is clinging to a wing of his crippled plane. Young Rowell had managed to stay in the air one hour and 15 minutes before the tricky cross wind sucks him out to sea. There were twenty boys entered in the contest in preparation for the International meet.

MAIMI BEACH, FL - Streaking across the Indian Creek course at a terrific pace, the Detroit daredevil misses his goal by .08 nautical miles an hour, in his effort to lower the record of 110.223 miles an hour held by the British speed king. Guiding Miss America IX over the water at a break-nect pace, the American is assured at the end of the spin that he had achieved his aim but later calculations proved once more he had failed in his assault on the mark of the Briton, made last year at Lake Garda, Italy.
