WASP NOW ATLANTIC FERRY
The famous U.S. carrier becomes part of the Navy’s Magic Carpet of ships designed to return soldiers to this country as fast as possible. 5,500 men made the first trip in 7 days—7 days of fun, food and sleep.
NAVY SPURS LOAN DRIVE
Washington, D.C.—A fleet of PT boats, the craft that played such a part in this war, parades on the Potomac River in a demonstration to spur bond sales in the victory loan drive.
SHOES FOR THE SOUTH
New York—Footwear that will decorate southern beaches this season are displayed in New York by Delman. Not only beach shoes, but the dress variety are previewed.
PRE-BUILT ALUMINUM HOUSES
Kingston, Ont.—Pre-fabricated houses of once-critical aluminum roll off the assembly lines in Canada to relieve the housing shortage and help bomb-shattered Britain. Each unit consists of a living room, two bedrooms, kitchen and bath.

NEW YEAR GREETINGS
As we enter our first full peacetime year since the war began, children of the Washington representatives of thirty nations send forth bi-lingual greetings to one and all for a Happy 1946 and peace for the years to come.
TRAILERS FOR VET STUDENTS
Boulder, Colo.—A trailer town is established for veterans enrolled at Colorado University. With their families they live in 200 trailers and the won has a population of 360.
SKI WATER BALLET
Lake Arrowhead, Calif.—Belita, exciting ballet dancer of the screen, takes to the lake on water skies in an engaging, graceful ballet that reveals true poetry of motion.
KOREANS THANK YANKS
Tokio—A delegation of Korean natives call at American headquarters to thank their liberators for being freed from prison. Some, like Ryoull Pack, spent as long as 22 years in Jap prisons.
ATOM AND EVE
Port Arthur, Texas—Girl students at the college here conduct their own experiments in the mysteries of the atom. With a “Cyclotron” built by themselves, the work is a bang-up success.
STUDETN FLOUR BLITZ
Glascow—In a traditional battle two classes of students at the University stage a flour battle that wages back and forth before the losers go down gracefully—and that as white of them.
IN THE BASKET
New York—A rally late in the game gives the College of the City of New York a 43 to 35 victory over Oklahoma. The Beavers, underdogs, trailed at the half but came back strong. |

PAY TRIBUTE TO PATTON
Frankfort, Germany—General George S. Patton, Jr., one of the most colorful leaders among Allied combat commanders, succumbs to injuries in an automobile crash. The man who led the famed Third Army through victorious campaigns is to rest among the dead of his command in Luxembourg.
YAMASHITA TRIAL ENDS
Manila—The trial of the infamous butcher is closed with the Jap General sentenced to death after he was found guilty of allowing Jap soldiers to commit atrocities. His defense counsel, appealing to the Supreme Court, gets a stay of execution.
TRAFFIC SYMIES SERVICEMEN
New York—The battleship Washington arrives import with fifteen hundred servicemen who add to the tens of thousands unable to get home from the east coast.
New York—Gotham’s Pennsylvania station is typical of the transportation bottlenecks throughout the country as civilian and serviceman alike find themselves unable to jam aboard trains.
Seattle—Nearly two hundred thousand uniformed men are stranded on the West Coast with additional transports arriving daily.
West Coast—The Army puts huge transports into service to speed men home. Carrying a hundred men each, the transports wing the lucky ones, who are drawn by lot, homewards.
DESTROY JAP PLANES
Sasebo, Japan—Nippon’s wings are clipped as scores of the country’s planes are destroyed following a directive by Gen. MacArthur that Japan give up even civil aviation. In this one bonfire flame-throwers destroy planes valued at more than a million dollars.
SEABORNE JET PLANE
London—In the first experiment of its kind a Vampire jet propulsion plane takes off from a light Royal Navy carrier and makes successful landings to prove the feasibility of using jet planes on carriers. |

POPE NAMES CARDINALS
Archbishop Francis J. Spellman of New York heads the list of four new Cardinals from the United States who are among the thirty-two named by the Pope. The others are Archbishop John Glennon of Saint Louis, Archbishop Samuel Stritch of Chicago and Archbishop Edward Mooney of Detroit.
HONOR FILM MAKERS
Beverly Hills, Calif.—The Canadian Ambassador to the United State, L. B. Pearson, pays tribute to the Hollywood Film Industry for its aid to Canada and her people during the war.
