NEW YORK Japan becomes the 80th member of the United Nations. Foreign Minister Shigemitsu accepts the seat for his country, whose entry into World War II united the Big Three and ultimately resulted in the formation of the international body.
KOREAN-AMERICAN ORPHANS:
KOREA Heart warming scenes of an orphanage, where cheerful little mites of mixed Korean and American blood, await the long awaited trip to America. Harry Holt, Oregon rancher, is adopting 89 of the tots.
NIXON FLIES TO AUSTRIA:
WASHINGTON, D.C. Vice President Richard Nixon leaves for Vienna as President Eisenhower’s personal emissary to survey the Hungarian refugee problem and speed procedures for admitting 21,000 now authorized to enter.
NEW MacARTHUR FOR JAPAN:
WASHINGTON, D.C. Douglas MacArthur II, nephew of his famous namesake, is sworn in by State Sec’y. Dulles as our new ambassador to Japan. His name should stand him in good stead in Japan.
ORDINATION IN ROME:
ROME 51 Americans are ordained as priests after graduation from the American college. Impressive ceremonies mark the age old ritual.
BEAUTY AND THE BEACH:
BERMUDA Brand new 1957 beach creations by Jantzen are alluringly displayed in a lovely tropical setting by a bevy of pretty bathing beauties.
THE WORLD OF SPORTS
SKI-LIFT In Austria, a pocket ski-lift, featuring a small car driving a transmission wheel, provides ingenious inventor with his own tow up the slope. No waiting, no being dependent upon tow-equipped slopes.
BASKETBALL New York’s Madison Square Garden is scene of thrilling court clash between Knicks and Celtics of Boston. Bob Cousy of the Celts is magnificent but the Knicks rely on teamwork for a much-deserved (and applauded) 110-99 victory.

Celebrities attend a sneak preview of U-I’s new film, “The Great Man.” Among those on hand, opera star Robert Merrill, Sammy Davis, Jr., and author Al Morgan.
BASKETBALL BRIGHAM YOUNG vs ST. JOHN’S:
In New York’s Holiday Festival, Brigham Young’s Cougars battle a closely-matched St. John’s quintet. Fast-paced action all the way, with Tom Steinke of the Cougars scoring 30 points, as stand-out player. Final tally, 89-75 for Brigham Young.
