and UH-1B Helicopter Gunships were part of Operation Game Warden and tasked the grueling and dangerous task of stopping the flow of enemy arms, supplies and personnel into South Vietnam by way of the rivers and canals of the Mekong Delta.
Scenes include: Close-ups of River Patrol Boats on patrol and in actual combat. Helicopter cockpit point-of-view as gunships swoop in for a strafing runs against suspected enemy positions using rockets, fixed machine guns and door-mounted machine guns. Life aboard ship that served as their floating base of operations and maintenance facility for the River Boats and Helicopter Gunships.
A complete combat operation from the time the River Patrol Boats fall under fire from the water's edge, their return fire and call for helicopter support, ships alarm alerting helicopter crews of a support mission ASAP to their subsequent take-off from their support ship to strafing runs upon suspected enemy positions.
Really excellent footage of a very specialized branch of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
