General Walter Bedell Smith. Germany laid in ruins with scenes of destruction in ever city. History lays the blame for this costly world struggle on Adolf Hitler.
As the German army swept into Austria and then Czechoslovakia without firing a shot there were scenes of Hitler being hailed and paraded as the greatest conquering hero of the ages. On September 1, 1939 the German army, air force, and navy launched a concerted attack on Poland, utilizing Blitzkrieg tactics to annihilate the Polish army (invasion of Poland).
On September 3, 1939 the British and French governments declared war against Germany. British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain uses the BBC to inform the British people of the declaration of war. Scenes of British people gathered around the radio listening to Chamberlain. Scenes of the Maginot Line. This line of fortifications were of little use protecting France as the German Army attacked from the north through Belgium and quickly overran France marching into Paris on June 14, 1940. Brief scenes of Dunkirk. From France the German Air Force began their bombing attack on England. Scenes of the RAF fighters attacking German bombers.
