General Eisenhower recognized the success of the North African campaign would be greatly enhanced if the Vichy French forces would join the Allied Forces. This required Eisenhower to negotiate with the unpopular Marshall Philippe Petain, Head of State of Vichy France.

Shows Marshall Petain. Shows General Giraud. General Eisenhower meets with Francois Darlan, commander of the French fighting forces in Algiers. An agreement resulting in peace is reached with the Vichy French Commander. Allied tanks advance. Shows construction of forward airfield. The Nazis reinforce Tunis.
Newspaper headlines Darlan Slain-Assassin Held After Shooting. Eisenhower attends Darlan funeral in Algiers.
General Henri Giraud succeeds Darlan. Shows French troops fighting with Allied forces.

The British 1st Army commanded by Lt. General Anderson reaches the outskirts of Tunis after intense fighting. A strong Nazi counter-attack pushes the Allied forces back. Rain and mud stalls the war in North Africa. Shows planes stuck in the mud, soldiers cleaning weapons, and muddy boots.

President Roosevelt and Prime Minster Churchill meet in Casablanca. Roosevelt decorates soldiers. Another meeting brings General Charles de Gaulle and General Giraud together as they shake hands in the presence of Roosevelt and Churchill.
