Japanese POWs
Japanese prisoners of war (POWs) captured on Okinawa, wearing only loincloths climb into a truck. Shows group of prisoners prior to loading into truck.
Japanese Land Mines
Okinawa Oroku Peninsula. “C” Company Engineers, 6th Engineer Battalion, Mine disposal. A Japanese single horn land mine in roadway is detected. Two Marines carefully dig around mine, uncover top and remove the Hertz (acid) horn detonator from the land mine. Complete landmine is lifted out of hole and disassembled. Shows land mine and internal parts of the land mine that were removed. A home-made “tomato can” anti-personnel mine is located and dug up. Marine removes explosive charge from tomato can mine and pulls up detonating wire.
Combat On Okinawa
Marine firing 50 cal machine gun. Marine fires M-4 Garand rifle. CU of machine gun cartridge belt feeding cartridges as machine fires. Marine cautiously advance up slope toward mouth of cave. Shows explosion, Marines firing into cave. Dead Japanese soldier is pulled from cave. A Nisshoki or Hinomaru national Japanese flag is removed from dead Japanese soldier and displayed. The Japanese national flag is a white rectangular flag with a large red disk in the center. Marines fire self-propelled artillery across a valley, scenes of explosions as shells strike hillside.
