June 17, 1945 unedited footage of the final days of the Battle of Okinawa, codename “Operation Iceberg”. Japanese speaking interpreters of the U.S. 32nd Infantry Regiment use loud speakers to persuade civilians and Japanese soldiers to come out of the caves where they had sought refuge.

Note: By mid-May 1945 the Japanese 32nd Army and civilians were retreating to their final line of defense on Mabuni Hill on the southern tip of Okinawa where the final battle for Okinawa ended on June 23, 1945.
