In 1242 German Knights invaded Russia and occupied the old city of Pskov and the capitol Novgorod. The Russian people turned to Prince Alexander Nevsky for leadership. On April 5, 1242 at Lake Peipus the Russians met and defeated the might of the German forces.

1704 Charles the Twelfth of Sweden marched into Russia. Lead by their Emperor, Peter The Great and after five years of war, the Swedes were defeated in the historic Battle of Poltava.

1812 Napoleon and his army blazed their way across Europe and marched toward Moscow.
