At Yalta, in the Russian Crimea, the Allied big three laid plans for final victory in WWII and for the occupation and control of Germany. More importantly Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin dedicated their nations to the foundation for permanent peace through a United Nations Organization.
Suddenly President Roosevelt FDR is dead (scene of his burial). WWII ends…. In Tokyo Bay Macarthur accepts surrender of Japan. In San Francisco delegates from 50 nations met to form the United Nations Organization. Harry Truman and Vyacheslav Molotov sign the U.N. Charter.
Soon the U.N was put to the test as they attempt to resolve disputes in four countries.
The U.N. mediates Indonesian independence from the Netherlands. Queen Juliana signs the agreement in The Hague in 1949.
Mohandas Gandhi, Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Pandit Nehru agree on the partition of India and Pakistan; fighting erupts in the Jammu and Kashmir states; Nehru and Liaquat Ali Kahn of Pakistan discuss the Kashmir problem.
Count Folke Bernadotte, U.N. mediator on the Palestine truce talks, is assassinated and replaced by Ralph Bunche who negotiates an Israeli-Trans Jordan armistice. Israel is admitted to the U.N.
The job of the U.N. was not done as border clashes broke out in Greece and soon open warfare in this troubled region of the world.
General Douglas Macarthur leads U.N. forces in Korea. Jacob Malik, Soviet chairman of the Security Council, stalls all actions on Korea. American Ambassor Warren Austin denounces Soviet intervention and manipulation of North Korea.
