On the employment of African Americans in Works Progress Administration (WPA) projects as the country was coming out of the depression years. Contrasts scenes of African Americans waiting in breadlines with those employed in Federal work programs such as constructing runways, public building construction, pools, parks, playgrounds, nursery schools and office work. These jobs required skilled and unskilled workers.
Shows household and health care training programs and general adult education classes. Cooking, bed making, care of children, care of sick, and the sewing of clothes.
Shows programs available for African American artists, musicians, writers and actors. William Lawrence directs an art song group, Juanita Hall leads a spiritual choir and the African American Theater Unit of the Federal Theater Project presents a scene from Macbeth.
