The American way of life centered around the country store and how it links the small town of Southville, Ky, with the rest of the world in late 1940 or early 1950. Introduces Ed and Mary Skelton. Ed sells necessary supplies such as groceries, farm tools, newspapers and gasoline, while Mary serves as the town's postmistress. Ed's store is the center for community debate and weekend movies. Neighbors join together for a hayride and picnic.
