Scenes of salmon migrating upstream to spawn, Indians using nets to fish for salmon. Depression era footage from the 1930's of families from the dust bowl of the southern plains with cars loaded with household goods headed to the northwest. Out of work men are walk and ride the train as hobo's seeking work.

Shows the logging and timber of the northwest before the depression and then the decline of the timber industry as the depression hit. No jobs for incoming workers migrating from the dust bowl. Unemployed men looking for work standing on street corners. Scenes of unemployment. Southern plains dustbowl scenes. Abandoned farm equipment and homes as people leave the dust bowl area seeking jobs.

Building and construction of the Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River, blasting with dynamite, pouring concrete, hydroelectric equipment, and electrical power switch yards. Industry and jobs return to the northwest with start of WWII and the abundance of electrical power. Flood scenes and people driven from their homes due to floods. Map shows other dams built to control flooding.
