Synopsis: Re-enactment of the integration of a group of World War II refugees into the life of the small town of Cummington, Mass. The town's clergyman describes the town's initial coolness towards the newcomers and helps involve them in social activities, the church and vocational activities. Individual refugees find familiar work in printing, farming, lumbering and shopkeeping and begin socializing with their neighbors as respect develops on both sides. Scenes of a new england town in the 1940's, town hall meeting, houses, people, fashions, panoramic views of the countryside, small town country store, New England lifestyle, ferris wheel and other rides at a country fair. |
