The Sonic Boom And You

With the advent of the development of SST passenger and cargo aircraft the U.S. Department of Transportation undertook the study of sonic booms over a populated area and if such supersonic flights would be acceptable to flights over inhabited areas. In 1961 the United States set as a national goal the development of a supersonic transport. The project was called the SST Program and the FAA was given the responsibility to see it was developed. Shows Engineers at work, aircraft mock-ups, and testing of different aircraft configurations. Animation is used to illustrate the cause and effects of a sonic boom.
