NATO Seeks To End Cyprus Crisis Between Turkey And Greece

The tinderbox that is Cyprus threatens to erupt into a full-scale war. Greek students demonstrate against British and United States proposals that a force of NATO troops should help maintain a truce between Greeks and Turks. The Greek students demand the UN (United Nations) take control as requested by Cyprus President Archbishop Makarios. The Western powers are leery of a U.N. Force that would give the Russians a voice. Shows bomb damage to U.S. Embassy on Cyprus. Shows U.S. citizens boarding plane on Cyprus after evacuation of all Americans on the island was ordered.

1964 Winter Olympic Games Innsbruck Austria

Canada's four-man bobsled team thunders to an upset as they beat the favored Austrian quartet by a fraction over one second.

In the Men's Slalom, it's the United States turn to upset the ski-pole. William Winston "Billy" Kidd of Vermont takes second place and his teammate, Jimmie (Jimmy) Heuga of California, takes third. Josef Stiegler of Austria wins a Gold Medal for his team. It's the first win for the United States in Men's Alpine Skiing.

There's another upset in the Men's Figure Skating as Manfred Schnelldorfer of Germany pirouettes his way to the crown. He upsets Alain Calmat of France who had three spills and placed second. Scott Ethan Allen of New Jersey, just 14 years old, wins a third-place Bronze Medal for the United States while winning the hearts of the crowd as well.
