Student Riots Mark Beginning Of Racial School Integration
U.S. vs Mississippi in racial integration battle. James H. Meredith, 29-year-old Black, is registered at the University of Mississippi only after last ditch attempts by State authorities to bar him from the school. As President John F. Kennedy spoke asking for calm, riots break out on the campus as students and protesters fight with U.S. Marshals.
Floods Take Heavy Toll In Spain
Flash floods that followed on the heels of a nine-hour rainfall cause wide devastation in the area around Barcelona, Spain. Damage is estimated at $30 million as relief workers recover 500 bodies and seek the hundreds that are still missing.
German Fashion Is Fitted Suits For Women
Lady Fashion Parade. Out of Paris via Germany are these lady's suits for Fall; suits that are designed to be severe and to flatter the figure at the same time. The choker collar is back, too, and there are tasseled shawls to guard against that Autumn nip.
College Football: Army vs. Syracuse
The West Point Cadets take advantage of Orange fumbles to score a touchdown and a field goal. Syracuse is able to chalk up only two points on a safety as an Army man is nailed behind the goal line when he catches a punt.
