At West Point, Penn State hands the Cadets their first defeat of the season, by a final upset score of 27-16. Three touchdowns by Jim Kerr turns the trick for the Nittany Lions, who come from behind with unexpected toughness.

Highlights of the World Series. In the third game, the New York Yankees follow up their 16-3 crusher with another scoring spree, with Bobby Richardson blasting out a grand slam home run, and going on to set a new series record for runs batted in.

Next day- the spunky Pittsburgh Pirates shake off the effects of two resounding defeats, and fight to a 3-2 victory, on the strength of Vernon Law's pitching and a brilliant catch by Bill Virdon that chokes off a New York rally.

In the 5th game, the Pittsburgh nine stay in charge as they win 5-2, putting them one key game ahead in the World Series games tally.
