Crisis Builds Between Red China And Formosa
As the Formosa crisis becomes more explosive daily, General Lemuel Partridge, U.S. Far Eastern Air Force Commander, arrives on the Chinese Nationalist stronghold. Meanwhile, the isle of Quemoy, just 8 miles from the Red mainland, lies under the threat of imminent attack, its garrison on 24-hour alert. 200 miles to the north, refugees – widows and orphans of Nationalist soldiers – are evacuated from the exposed Tachen islands, a first step in the tightening of Formosa’s defenses, as the world awaits developments in the worst international crisis since World War II.
