Inauguration Of Harry S. Truman - Denounces Communism In Speech To World
With pomp and pageantry, the nation’s Capital welcomes in the new administration, and hails the man who wouldn’t be beaten – Harry S. Truman – as he is sworn in as 32nd president of the United States. Here are the colorful highlights of the inaugural – the ballyhoo and carnival atmosphere – the huge throngs – the parades and the floats.

It is a solemn ceremony when Chief Justice Vinson administers the oath of office, and Mr. Truman, in ringing tones, swears to uphold the constitution. In a dramatic acceptance speech, the President pledges himself to a crusade for peace and goes on to denounce the forces of communism for blocking world recovery and imperiling peace.

Following the ceremony, Pres. Truman rides in triumph down Pennsylvania Avenue, at the head of the greatest parade in Washington’s history. War planes roar overhead as millions watch spectacular review of troops and gala floats.
