Two U.S. Subs Meet Under The Arctic Ice
Two U.S. nuclear submarines meet under the polar ice cap. The U.S. nuclear submarines USS Skate (SSN-578) and USS Seadragon (SSN-584) surface in the Arctic Ocean after a rendezvous under the polar ice cap. One came from Hawaii and the other from Connecticut. They conducted unprecedented maneuvers that point the way to a new type of warfare that could be fought in the polar regions.
The Berlin Crisis Continues
The Reds in East Berlin moves to drop Command Post and cut ties to Allies. The Russians announce that they are abolishing the post of Commandant. West Berlin police deploy barbwire barricades at a West-East crossing to control angry crowds of West Berliners that gather daily to harass Soviet Troops after East German Guards shot an 18-year old boy trying to flee to West Berlin.
