Synopsis: Chapter 1: A mysterious plague called 'The Purple Death' strikes Earth. Flash Gordon and Dr. Alexis Zarkov conclude that Ming The Merciless, ruler of the planet Mongo is behind the terrible plague. Along with Dale Arden, the trio use Dr. Zarkov's super sophisticated rocket ship to begin their adventure; but first they must gain allies in their quest.
Arriving in Arboria to enlist the aid of Prince Barin, they meet Fria The Queen Of The Ice Kingdom who is also seeking Barin's aid against the evil Ming. Joining forces, they break into Ming's laboratory just in time to halt a fiendish experiment and in the process Flash is pitted against a giant of tremendous strength and falls into a deep pit.
