Synopsis: Senate Joint Resolution 32 (S.J. Res. 32) with five co-sponsors has been introduced by Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY). This Resolution would limit the issuance of a letter of offer with respect to a certain proposed sale of defense articles and defense services to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Senators Bernie Sanders (D-VT), Robert Casey (D-PA), and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) speak in support of this resolution and the impact high gasoline prices are having on the American economy. This resolution is an attempt to persuade the Saudis to increase oil production by some 1.0 M barrels of oil per day. Schumer estimates this would lower the price of gasoline at the pump by $0.50 within a month or two.
