Synopsis: Mexican President Felipe Calderon addressed, in English, a joint session of the U.S. Congress in which he commented on the new Arizona immigration law and assault weapons. In referring to the Arizona immigration law Calderon said “it ignores a reality that cannot be erased by decree” and said his country was trying to improve economic conditions so Mexicans would not feel the need to leave their country in order to succeed. He also asked Congress to re-instate the ban on the sale of assault type weapons.
