Escape From Nazi Europe 1940
Fleeing Nazi Europe to America. People line the rails of the SS Excambion, one of the "4 Aces" American Export Lines cargo-passenger ships, as the liner arrives in New York City from Lisbon, Portugal. New York City and Statue of Liberty in background. Shows refugees waving an American flag and an Italian flag. Refugees leaving the ship at New York City pier.
In late 1940, American Export Lines chartered the SS Siboney to return American fleeing Europe at the outset of WWII, making seven roundtrips from Jersey City, New Jersey to Lisbon, Portugal. Shows SS Siboney arriving and docking at Jersey City, N.J. Passengers come down gangway and into baggage and U.S. Customs area.
