WASHINGTON, D. C.—President Roosevelt, in the most critical fireside address of his administration, says that America faces a long worl-wide war, but that we will win out in the end.
AMERICA GOES TO WAR
From coast to coast, Americans and American cities show the effect of all-out war. New recruits by the thousands rush to enlist! Air raid alarms are sounded on both coasts, and cities are blacked out! Jap aliens are rounded up and extra precautions are taken against sabotage! Attorney General Biddle warns citizens to report suspicious acts to the proper authorities!
TWO BRITISH WARSHIPS SUNK
OFF MALAYA—Britain’s “worst blow of the war.” The “Prince of Wales” and the “Repulse” are victims of Jap dive-bombers and submarines while in action off the Malay coast!—Meanwhile, British troop reinforcements arrive at Singapore, ready for action!

BRITISH DRIVE DEEP INTO LIBYA
British Imperial forces, aided by the guns of warships, are driving deep into Axis-held territory. Many areas have been stormed and taken, and a steady stream of prisoners pours into Cairo.—In England, British women learn how to operate anti-aircraft finders and predictors.
MIDSHIPMEN “WARCLASS” GRADUATED
ANNAPOLIS, MD.—547 new Ensigns are made in the Naval Academy’s first “war class” since the World War.—Meanwhile, steady stream of new warships brings U. S. closer to Two-Ocean goal. A cruiser and destroyer slide down the way! Admiral Chester Nimitz is new head of Pacific Fleet.

Threats of attack by enemy planes and submarines spur defense measures on both coasts. In mass meeting in Chicago, thousands of workers pledge their services as air raid wardens!—The Governing Board of the Pan-American Union meets in Washington to lay plans for the anti-Axis conference in Rio!—Byron Price of the A.P. is sworn in as head of our new Censorship Bureau!—At Mitchel Field, L.
