STEPS TO SICILY
Final training scenes on African shores as America’s various military units rehearse their parts for the dramatic invasion of Sicily.
1—The paratroopers go through all steps leading to their mass jumping from fleets of troop bearing planes.
2—Glider troop trains rehearse their stated roles.
3—Fleets of huge sea-going barges, laden with infantry, plow through the seas to guarded shores. Through barbed wire they hack their way, and clamber up hilly slopes to engage the enemy.

YANKS BATTER ITALY
The U. S. 9th and 12th Air Forces direct terrific aerial bombardments on Italian soil. Blockbusters scatter destruction. Even the near hits in the sea are valuable, since they set off mine fields.

CHURCHILL, A LONDON FREEMAN
In historic ceremony, MR. Churchill is presented a significant scroll which makes hima Freeman of London. In speech thereafter, he destines Japan to certain doom.

HUMAN KITES
In little Rhode Island they fly the largest kites in the nation. Designer Jalbert demonstrates them, and sends his daughter aloft as a passenger.

FREE RIDES TO FIRES
WASHINGTON STATE—2,000 high school boys comprise the Civilian Fire Fighting Corps, formed to protect Washington’s vast forests from Jap fire bombs, while their adult relatives are at war.

WAR TALKS END
The momentous Ottawa conferences are brought to a stirring close as President Roosevelt advises the Fuehrer to surrender now or face the calamitous ruin which has just been planned for him.

BOMBS ROCK EUROPE
Allied bombers roam the length and breadth of a war-sickened Italy, as huge air fleets roar out of England to spread their ruin in occupied France. The devastating action of “earth waves” (bomb concussions) is clearly observed.

CAPTURE OF MUNDA
The tropical campaign directed at Munda comes to a successful conclusion for the battle-seasoned Yanks. The yard by yard nature of the advance is observed as the tricky Jap resistance is rolled back.

ATTU HEROES
American hero dead are fittingly honored by their comrades as services are held in the military cemetery in this Arctic outpost.

SANDRINGHAM FARMS
King George sets a royal example for his Empire as he converts his beautiful floral gardens at Sandringham Palace to British Victory Gardens.

NUMBER 50,000
At an East Coast tank depot, where armored units are assembled for battle action, prior to being shipped abroad, the 50,000th war vehicle is sent on its way.

His country overrun by the Nazi horde, indomitable King Christian of Denmark is virtually imprisoned by his country’s captives.

LATE KING BORIS
Historic photographs show scenes from the stormy reign of Bulgaria’s ill-fated King Boris, who made a deal with the Nazis and lost.

AXIS LOSES AGAIN
Defying flak-filled skies, Axis bombers strike at dawn over the harbor at Palermo, hitting one of our supply ships anchored below.

FRESH FISH TODAY
A free-for-all at a drained 500-acre mill pond provides citizens of souther Georgia with more than 15,000 lbs. of choice fish frys.

NEW ARMY AIR BASE
One of the greatest and newest training stations for airborne troops is dedicated in the Middle West. Parachute troops and their dogs thrill crowds with daring demonstrations.

MARRIAGE ON FURLOUGH
Top-ranking designers show what the well dressed bride will wear when she marries the soldier, sailor or marine. The display includes replicas of uniforms and bridal costumes of six previous American wars.

AXIS PRISONERS
Italian and German prisoners of the Sicilian Campaign relax at a North African prison camp. After being re-outfitted and checked in they are transported to permanent camps in England and U. S.

HEROES HONORED
General Eisenhower awards Brigadier General Howard Craig the Legion of Merit, while in Yunnan Province, China, Major General Chennault receives a silver trophy from Chinese merchants.

RUSSIA ROUTS NAZIS
The fifth year of the war sees invincible Russia triumphant over the enemy as the Nazis are steadily repulsed and forced to retreat from every front.

ALLIES TAKE KISKA
Combined operations by Canadian troops and the Yanks, wrests Kiska from the Japanese grasp and ride the American owned Aleutians of the last remnants of the Jap invasion force.

IN THE BEST TRADITION
The eighth U. S. Navy vessel to bear the proud name “Hornet” is launched. The new air-craft carrier replaces the famous flat-top from which Jimmy Doolittle and his flyers bombed Tokyo and which was later lost to the Japanese.

TOMMIES ON PARADE
Three-hundred-fifty Tommies, members of a crack British AA battery, who heroically defended London against the Luftwaffe, parade up New York’s Broadway. They’re in America to exchange information with U. S. soldiers in anti-aircraft units.

REUNION IN SICILY
A young boy left his family and home town in Sicily for the U. S. Coming of age, he was drafted and later took part in the Sicilian Invasion as a corporal in the U. S. Army. In Mezojulsa he is reunited with his parents and sister, ending one of the strangest and happiest tales of the war.

AN AMERICAN BEAUTY
In the sixth annual married women’s beauty contest held at Palisades Amusement Park, a Kalamazoo, Michigan housewife is crowned “Mrs. America.” And she is awarded a fur coat –What a relief to hubby!

DIVING AT ITS BEST
In Los Angeles, at the eight annual Open Swimming and Diving meet, national diving champions show the stuff of which champs are made.

Vibo Valentia and Vertigo, vital Italian airbases, are blasted by American bomber squadrons as British invasion of Italian mainland presages Allied incursions into Hitler’s Europe.

MacARTHUR ADVANCES
Fleets of Yank bombers hurl concussive bombs on Jap base at Salamua, New Guinea as MacArthur’s concerted South Pacific push gets under way.

CHURCHILLS GET AROUND
Accompanied by her subaltern daughter, Mary, Mrs. Churchill lays a wreath on the tomb of America’s Unknown Soldier at Arlington. Later, Miss Churchill shows up at Datona Beach, Fla. To enjoy a day at the WAC cantonment there.

ASSEMBLY IN THE ANTIPODES
Huge assembly plants in Australia recondition war-torn aircraft for return to duty, as well as supplies of every description.

COOLIES IRON OUT FIELD
Thousands of coolies pull gigantic rollers over pulverized rock to provide a cementless runway for American bombers, which now stand poised to take a crack at Japan proper.

MILITARY PIGSKIN PREVIEW
War time squads turn out at Annapolis and West Point as the service teams open practice sessions. The material appears able to crack any football or military line.

HOLLYWOOD CARAVAN
Movie stars from Hollywood get the Third War Loan Drive off to a flying start as they engage in a transcontinental entertainment tour.

ITALY SURRENDERS
To save herself from advancing ruin, Italy signs armistice terms agreeing to unconditional surrender—and lays down her arms. Il Duce is mocked in his ruin, and the masterful strategy of General Eisenhower secures the willing co-operation of a conquered, but not a subjugated Italy.

ROOSEVELT OPENS DRIVE
Pres. Roosevelt cites Italy’s capitulation as a victory for the Italian people, as well as for Gen. Eisenhower as he officially opens the Third War Loan Drive.

WINSTON CHURCHILL, LLD.
Harvard confers its coveted degree upon Winston Churchill. In his speech, the Prime Minister pledges that England will march side by side with the U.S., to complete victory.

PACIFIC WOUNDED
Wounded in the Munda victory, Yank casualties receive expert medical attention. Many apparently hopeless cases are restored to normal health.

MOVIE STARS SELL BONDS
The “Hollywood Bond Cavalcade” of screen luminaries arrives in Washington, D.C., to do their part in getting the 3rd War Loan Drive under way.

R.A.F. BLASTS EUROPE
The R.A.F. roars over the North Sea in Boston bombers, and plants destructive delayed-action bombs on Valenciennes, France. Incredible speed marks the whole venture.

VIENNESE JIVE
The graceful Viennese waltz ushers in the annual Harvest Moon Ball at Madison Square Garden. But broth – er, just see those jitterbugs shove it around at about 80 to the bar.

YANKS OVER EUROPE
After bombing the veritable daylights out of Villa Coublay (a Nazi plane repair depot), even to securing a direct hit, units of the famous American 8th Airforce wing their way back to England.

HULL SEES ARMED PEACE
Looking ahead to the post-war era, Secretary of State Cordell Hull states that nations must be willing to fight if need be, to maintain the peace.

AMAZING HELLCAT
Test pictures show the new F6F, Grumman Hellcat, to be the last word in air-fighter versatility. Already, these Hellcats are tearing Zeros to pieces.

FIGHTING BAZOOKA
The bazooka, which has been playing a tune of death for the Axis, is shown to President Roosevelt.

SMOKE PROBLEMS
At an East Coast Army base, intensive maneuvers in the art of spreading smoke screens are carried out.

CARRY ON DESPITE NO GAS
Rationing woes cause daredevil drivers at New Jersey’s State Fair to use propane gas, steel flange wheels—then to show their utter disdain for all driving restrictions, they leap over flaming obstacles.

MUNDA FINALE
Subborn Japs are exterminated by advancing Yanks, who then take over the wreck-strewn airport. In short order, the air field is converted to American use.

$250,000 BLAZE
The Philadelphia Broad Street station of the Pennsylvania Railroad is hit by a tragic and spectacular blaze.

AMERICAN BEAUTIES
ATLANTIC CITY, N. J. – Miss California emerges as Miss America, 1943, in keen competition with an ultra-fine collection of strutting beauties.

MEN OF THE HOUR
General MacArthur greets five touring U.S. Senators at Point Moresby, New Guinea. A great deal of importance attaches to this meeting.
General Giraud arrives at Rabat, then he visits Casablanca and stides the decks of the Jean Bart.
General deGaulle visits units of the French Expeditionary Force at Bedeau. HE reviews the “Garde Marocaine” and in turn in honored by them.
General Spaatz, Commander of the Northwest African Air Force, presents D.F.C’s to four members of the R.A.F. Colorful Spahis, native cavalry, brighten the occasion.

FRENCH NAVY SCUTTLED
At Toulon, major units of the once proud French navy are scuttled, rather than permitted to become Hitler’s proerty. The billowing clouds of smoke, and the twisted steel, bring memories of Pearl Harbor—through this time, it’s a defeat for the Axis.

A M G IN SICILY
America’s Military Governing unit is seen operating, with Sicilians eagerly standing in line to get bread and ration books.

BOND CAVALCADE ENDS
Hollywood stars complete their continental bond tour in San Francisco. Their patriotism served them well, for they seem fresher than when they began.

CONUSIUS SAY “BUY BONDS” (Exclusive)
Gigantic bond rally in New York’s Chinatown nets $120,000 purchases. The age old wisdom of the Chinese leads them to make the best investment in the world.

Eleanor Roosevelt convulses audiences as she relates a whopper involving the Japs and her husband.

LEADERS IN SOUTH EAST ASIA
DELHI, INDIA—General Stilwell arrives from China by plane as does General Somervell, from Australia.
Then Lord Louis Mountbatten is shown greeting various of the leaders under him who promptly initiate the grueling offensive in Burma.

WAR IN BURMA
Yankee pilots drop two hundred and fifty tons of bombs on the Japs at Akyab in Burma, and British troops, including turbaned natives, enter the jungles, hunting Japs. Their efforts are wholly successful, for many dead Nips strew their advancing trails.

EISENHOWER WITH THE FIFTH
Across the Volturno River, General Eisenhower greets General Clark and they proceed to outline their further strategy. Mine clearers are shown at their ticklish job of discovering, then rendering harmless, deadly booby trap road mines.

GERMAN MASSACRES
In Italy, Stefano DiMattia survives the mass murder of twenty of his companions who were slain in reprisal for the wounding of a German chicken thief.

REPATRIATED YANKS
WALTER REED HOPSITAL, WASH., D.C.—Under prisoner exchange, a group of wounded Yanks return from Nazi hospital camps. They state that ‘mail from home’ is number one on the service man’s hit parade.

FIVE MILLION ANNIE OAKLIES (New York City only)
At N. Y. C. Defense Recreation Headquarters, Eleanor Roosevelt hands out the 5,000,000th ducat which provides free admission to feature attractions, for service men.

SAFETY IN THE WATER
The U.S. Air Force personnel is put through some stiff drills in extricating themselves from water. They make huge water wings, save injured companions—then span swollen streams like inverted monkeys.

CYCLING IN SAHARA
Chubby of the British forces, takes up cycling in the front yard of the Pyramids. He even takes up the blawsted bike when he can’t fathom its intricacies, and sheds crocodile tears and excess poundage in the process.

NOTRE DAME SWAMPS ARMY
YANKEE STADIUM – Two unbeaten titans grapple before 80,000 excited fans. Lujack pours the T for the Irish and how! It winds up Notre Dame 26, Army 0.
