RUSSIA’S SURPRISE WEAPON UNVEILED
The Russian armies converge before Karachev to unleash a terrific offensive
As they lay down their blinding barrage, strange flashes are observed. Careful examination proves them to be Russia’s deadly new weapons in action—ROCKET GUNS. As the infantry leaps forward to pursue the fleeing Nazis, the toll exacted by these new weapons is seen. The’ ever familiar faces of Nazi dead greet us, and the wreckage of German equipment impedes the way temporarily. But American-built Lend-Lease jeeps bounce into view, bristling with Soviet troops, and Karachev is entered.

FALL OF BRYANSK
The smoke of battle rises from Bryansk as the Reds cautiously advance on this important rail center, which also served as a jumping off spot for the Nazi drive on Moscow. Terrific explosions rend the scene, but the Russians roll forward and enter the prize city. Civilians get the tidings, and with sheep drawn vehicles, they bring their religious trappings and personal effects back to their home city. And they demonstrate their gratitude to the liberating troops.

WAAFS IN ARLINGTON
Two WAAF section officers, killed in a motor accident, are buried with full military honors in Arlington. They are the first British military women to be given such final honors.

JULIANA VISITS DUTCH GUINEA
The heir to the Netherlands throne visits Free Dutch territory for the first time in three years. The natives are exuberant in the reception they give her.

DANCE PALACE BOMBED
LONDON—Dancers were oblivious to Nazi bombers in a recent nuisance raid . . . then a crumper caved in the whole dancing edifice. Strewn wreckage and piles of unclaimed wraps tell a stark story.

RICHELIEU READY FOR ACTION
This 35,000 ton French battle wagon arrives in Mediterranean waters after her complete refitting in the U.S.A. General Giraud inspects the fighting giant as she prepares for ‘the main evetn.’

REDSKINGS 21 – BEARS 7
Upset! Chicago’s classy Bears are outcharged as their bitter rivals, the Washington Redskins, push them around for a 21 to 7 drubbing.

SEAHAWKS 13 – IRISH 14
The youngsters at Notre Dame engage in a real ballgame. The Iowa Preflighters, loaded with ex-pro stars and worlds of experience, go into the lead twice. With crunching blocks and educated toes, and punch out a hard earned victory. Fighting Irish? Yes.

BIG THREE CONFERENCE AT CAIRO
President Roosevelt, Prime Minister Churchill and Generalissimo Kai-shek with his diplomatic wife, are shown at Cairo, Egypt as their momentous conference gets under way—to seal the fate of Japan and her ill-gotten plunder of Empire.

BIG THREE CONFER IN PERSIA
President Roosevelt and Prime Minister Churchill adjourn to Teheran, the capital of Iran where they cordially join Premier Stalin under the sanctity of the Hammer and Sickle at the Russian Embassy. Complete military staffs including most of the Allied heroes in the public eye today, are in attendance. In a highly colorful ceremony, England’s Prime Minister presents Stalin with a huge sword as a present from the British people to the heroic people of Stalingrad.

THE 5TH SPANS THE MUD
General Clark’s 5th Army is shown slogging through muck and mire in Italy, as tons of supplies arrive fro delivery on the rooftops of resisting Nazis.

SKY CANNON
From an orifice in the nose of a Mitchell bomber issues the business end of a 75 mm. cannon that shoots a 13-pound shell. These sky cannon have proved themselves in air combat.

TEMPEST IN GRASS SKIRTS
SOMEWHERE IN THE PACIFIC—Yanks watch hula hula as long as they can—then they get right in there with some smart hootchy kootchy of their own.

A GREEN CHRISTMAS
SHELTON, WASH.—Millions of evergreens are cut and prepared by men and women workers—so that Xmas trees may be made available to civilians and armed forces alike.

POLO GROUNDS—Professional upset occurs as freshman star Paschal from Georgia Tech streaks through and over the highly favored Washington team to bring victory to the N. Y. Football Giants.

THE BATTLE OF MAKIN
Makin Island, 130 miles north of blood drenched Tarawa, is approached by a stupendous American task force. Preparations completed, New York’s 27th Division scrambles down the net ladders into landing craft, and the invasion of Makin is on. Like a huge water elephant a tank clambers ashore, then starts blazing away. Doughboys wade to dry land and strafing planes zoom overhead. Yankee field pieces go into action. A Jap ammunition dump goes p in smoke, a mammoth Jap flying boat is destroyed and one of their tanks and battle flags are examined. The victory is complete. As quiet returns to the island, native Gilbertesians come into view and mass is celebrated on a jeep.

BOMBING THE MARSHALLS
Guns cameras give us an eagle’s view of the carnage created by U. S. Navy dive bombers and torpedo planes as they attack the Marshall Islands. Jap airfields, grounded planes and barracks are mercilessly bombed, then strafed. Answering enemy tracer bullets head right at us, but the Yank heroes press home the attack. Jap shipping gets a terrible pasting, and billowing smoke clouds announce that a Jap cruiser has been exploded.

ROOSEVELT’S YULETIDE MESSAGE
HYDE PARK, N. Y.—The President delivers a report to the nation on his recent global journeyings, then dramatically announces that General Dwight Eisenhower has been selected to lead the Allied invasion armies on the “Second Front.”

TOO TALL FOR THE SERVICES
MIAMI BEACH, FLA.—Paul McDonald standing 6 ft. 7 ? ins. And weighing 240 lbs. has been turned down by all branches of American war service because government issue uniforms, shoes and pup tents can’t cover his needs.

WHITE HOUSE XMAS
The National Community Christmas Tree draws holiday celebrants to the White House lawn, where all Americans in the armed services receive prior consideration.

CARI-CARVINGS
R.C.A.F. Sgt. Mason carves caricatures of gremlins, world leaders and other personages. He uses balsa wood, a sharp knife, a keen sense of humor and a pair of gimlet eyes.
