Samuel Morse combined the inventions of Alessandro Volta (developed the principles of the electric battery), William Watson and Joseph Henry to invent the telegraph. In 1860 telegraph communication was established between North America and Europe.
In 1876 Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone and later Guglielmo Marconi developed the principles of wireless communication. The invention of the vacuum tube and later the transistor made radio and television possible.
Included in this film is a four second clip of a stagecoach illustrating early means of communication.
