Major Richard Bong Dies Testing New Jet Plane
Major Richard Bong, Lockheed test pilot, is killed while testing a Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star jet fighter plane. The P-80 was the first jet fighter used operationally by the United States Army Air Force.
