WESTERN EMBASSIES MOBBED IN MOSCOW:
Russia retaliates for last week’s anti-Red demonstrations touched off by the execution of Hungarian ex-Premier Nagy and other Freedom Fighters. Russian mobs, well-organized, assault the German and Danish embassies. The U.S. Embassy is threatened but not attacked.

FIERY DISASTER ON EAST RIVER:
On the East River in New York, a freighter collides with a gasoline-laden harbor tanker, touching off a midnight holocaust. Flames rise some 150 feet to scorch the Manhattan Bridge. Courageous and efficient rescue work saves all but 2 of 51 aboard the two ships.

ROYAL REVIEW:
Britain’s Territorial Army celebrates its Golden Jubilee with a review by the Queen, and parades in proud form despite a pelting rainstorm.

MISS GERMANY:
Pulchritudinous frauleins from all over West Germany compete in Baden-Baden for the crown of Miss Germany. The winner, golden-haired Gerti Daub.

BACK TO SCHOOL FASHIONS:
A the zoo, small fry models show off fall wardrobes for the grade school set, and professional models though they are, have a little trouble concentrating on the job. The wanna feed the elephants.

GONZALES TOPS ROSEWALL IN PRO TENNIS TOURNEY:
In the “Tournament of Champions” at Forest Hills, Pancho Gonzales meets a sensational challenge from Australia’s colorful Ken Rosewall, but fights off the danger of an upset to emerge still “Mr. Tennis”.

U.S. JETS IN FASTEST ATLANTIC ROUND TRIP:
Two U.S. Air Force jet tankers, Alpha and Bravo, complete a round-trip circuit from New York to London in record-shattering time, after a tragedy-marred take-off in which a 3rd sister ship crashed, killing 15 aboard.

JAPAN PARCHED BY WORST DROUGHT:
Japan’s worst drought in 52 years menaces the nation’s rice crop, as farmers have barely enough water in the paddles to plant new shoots. Water in Tokyo reservoirs is at 3% capacity.

NEW LIFE RAFT:
Special for National Boat Safety Week, a new inflating life raft that expands to a 10-passenger model from a 3-foot bundle.

GRACE AT BRUSSELS:
Tiny Monaco steals the show at the Brussels Fair, as Princess Grace and Prince Rainier visit the exposition.

QUEEN OF THE AMERRICAS:
At the White House, the First Lady greets the “Queen of the Americas” and her court of Latin-American lovelies.

WOMEN’S GOLF:
Near Detroit, 23-year-old Mickey Wright dominates the U.S.G.A. Women’s Open to set a new tournament record and become the first to win both the U.S.G.A. Open and the Professional crown in one season.

SANTA ROSA RODEO:
Vernon, Texas, goes all out for the 13th Annual Santa Rosa Roundup and Quarter Horse Show, with a wild and wooly Rodeo capping off the festivities.

NEWEST SEAWAY LINK:
North of Massena, N.Y., a 30-ton blast sends the St. Lawrence pouring into the bed of the world’s largest man-made lake, newest link in the Seaway.

ARMY SHOWS NIKE HERCULES:
At White Sands, New Mexico, the first public demonstration of the new Nike Hercules missile highlights a show of the Army’s missile arsenal.

IKE AND MAMIE’S ANNIVERSARY:
The Eisenhowers celebrate their 42nd wedding anniversary with a Potomac cruise aboard the Presidential yacht, accompanied by their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

QUEEN VISITS MINE:
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visit one of Britain’s most modern coal mines, and to the delight of miners, don working garb to go down into the pits.

PUS-BUTTON STATION WAGON:
An experimental dream car, complete with boat, kitchen roof-top tent, and dozens of other dazzling gadgets, all automatic and push-button controlled.

PIN-POINT PARAJUMPERRS:
Paris is the setting for the world’s championship parachute competition. Jumpers from 9 nations vie in aiming for a cloth target on the ground. Highlighting the show, a spectacular double leap by a husband and wife team.

USSR FREES 9 U.S. AIRMEN:
9 U.S. airmen held by the Soviet since their straying airliner was shot down in flames over Armenia, are reunited with loved ones in West Germany, at the end of an ordeal of anxiety.

IKE IN CANADA:
President Eisenhower visits Canada to talk with Prime Minister Diefenbaker, and address Parliament, on differences in trade policy that have lately caused some friction.

ALL-STAR GAME:
At Baltimore, the 25th All-Star Game is marked by lack-luster hitting, as the American Leaguers win 4-3 on pinch-hitting by Ted Williams and Gil McDougald, and brilliant pitching by Billy O’Dell.

25 YEARS AGO TODAY:
One of a series of glimpses into a time not so long ago but already shrouded with memory and nostalgia. F.D.R.’s inauguration – the bank holiday and Depression barter – legal 3.2 beer – and omens of the sack dress – only 25 years ago.

LIONS PARADE IN CHICAGO:
The Lions roar. A gala 5 hour parade marks the official opening of the Lions International 1958 convention.

REVOLT IN IRAQ:
An anti-Western revolt in Iraq topples King Faisal’s pro-U.S. government on the eve of the Baghdad Pact meeting. Reportedly mobs assassinated the King’s uncle, Crown Prince Ilah, while the King and his Premier, strong-man Nuri Said have dropped out of sight. The world anxiously awaits further news and watches the tinderbox of the Near East.

FILM FESTIVAL:
A night of stars in Berlin highlights the city’s International Film Festival. Events include a special showing of “A TIME TO LOVE AND A TIME TO DIE” and a gala ball.

EJECTOR SEAT:
In Germany, a new ejector seat is shown in a spectacular demonstration. A jet pilot is hurtled aloft as his plane taxis along a highway, and lands safely.

BEAVERS EAGER:
Beavers both eager and busy entertain Zurich zoo-goers. Junior is eager to go swimming even though he’s too young and Mama’s busy, busy, busy keeping him out of trouble.

KIMONOS GO WESTERN:
Jet-age kimonos bearing only a remote family resemblance to the traditional Nipponese garb – actually new creations for Western tastes but embodying classic Japanese features, for evening and afternoon wear.

AMERICA’S CUP TRIALS:
Off Newport, R.I., 4 graceful 12 meter yachts compete in elimination trials for the honor of defending the America’s Cup against the first British challenger in over a quarter of a century.

THE KID FROM CUT AND SHOOT:
Newest contender for the heavyweight boxing championship, Roy Harris of Cut and Shoot, Texas, trains for his coming match with champ Floyd Patterson.

MID-EAST CRISIS AMERICA, BRITAIN, SEND IN TROOPS CALL ON UNITED NATIONS TO ACT:
U.S. Marines land in Lebanon in response to a plea from the threatened Beirut regime. As Russia reacts with threats and denunciation, President Eisenhower explains America’s drastic action to stem mid-east aggression. A massive redeployment of U.S. forces is carried out, to back up our commitment. Britain next answered a call from Jordan, and airlifts 2,600 paratroopers to thwart a new plot against King Hussein.

In the United Nations, Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge calls for decisive action by the world organization, in the mid-east, and pledges that the Marines will be withdrawn, in accordance with U.N. action.

Drastic and dramatic action in the cause of world peace.

Nasser is hailed by a quarter of a million in Cairo, on the 6th Anniversary of Farouk’s overthrow – U.S. trouble-shooter Robert Murphy begins Lebanon compromise efforts – Jordan is quiet despite threats against King Hussein, as U.S. planes airlift vitally needed fuel – U.S. evacuees from Iraq arrive in Rome – Khrushchev calls for Summit talk at U.N.

TRANS-ATLANTIC OUTBOARD:
For the first time in history, an outboard cruiser crosses the Atlantic – a 10 day cruise for a valiant 22-fooot craft, from Copenhagen to New York.

BIGGEST BLIMP FOR NAVY:
A new blimp, the biggest ever built, and more important, carrying the largest airborne radar antenna ever, will join the Navy for long-range picket duty.

FASHION PARADE:
Coats and suits for those first crisp days of Fall are modeled by New York. Sleek, slim elegance is the keynote, with some truly dramatic styling touches.

SALINAS RODEO:
Armed Forces Day at the Salinas, California Rodeo. G.I. – packed stands see one of the most colorful, thrilling displays on the cowboy circuit including a gag battle between clown and Brahma bull.

MID-EAST CRISIS PROPAGANDA WAR HOT – EVENTS “MARK TIME”:
British forces stand fast in Jordan, bolstering the threatened Hussein regime as events stabilize in the troubled area, but Nasser’s radio continues to call on Jordan’s masses for an anti-West rising.

RECORD BALLOON TRIP:
A huge Navy research balloon carries a crew of two into the stratosphere for a new endurance record. The gondola is is successfully pressurized to sea-level conditions for the 34-hour flight.

JAPAN TYPHOON:
The island empire, parched by one of its worst droughts in history, is lashed by the season’s first typhoon. There’s water a-plenty but at grim cost – death, destruction and ruin for tens of thousands.

MISS UNIVERSE 1958:
At Long Beach, California, Miss Universe 1958 is chosen from the world’s prettiest girls. She’s good neighbor Luz Marina Zuloaga of Colombia, 19 years old and looking to get married!

JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES:
180,000 members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses sect gather in New York City for an 8-day Assembly, filling Yankee Stadium, with the overflow packing the Polo Grounds.

CUBS MEET TOTS:
In Rome, the Zoo’s new lion cubs are introduced to local tots with attractive Italian starlets performing the introductions for the benefit of photographers. A purr-fectly good time had by all.

HARTACK RIDES JUMPS:
At Monmouth Park, jockey Willie Hartack turns jump racer for a day and gets a “bigger thrill than winning the Kentucky Derby” as he pilots Miolaison to a 5-length victory.

ARLINGTON CLASSIC:
A rare thrill for 30,000turf fans as the 12-horse field in the Arlington Classic comes thundering home as closely packed as at the start. Winner’s share of the $146,000 purse goes to Dragon Killer, - a 17-1 shot!
