IKE WARNS RED CHINA ON QUEMOY:
In Newport, R.I., after an urgent conference with Secretary Dulles, Ike warns that he will not hesitate to commit U.S. troops if he deems it necessary. Meanwhile, the Communist artillery attack on the off-shore island of Quemoy slackens, and reinforcements build the patrolling U.S. Sixth Fleet to a 6-carrier force.

AIR FORCE ACADEMY:
Nearly 1,500 Air Force cadets move into permanent quarters at the modernistic service academy near Colorado Springs. A full-dress review marks the occasion.

R.A.F. AIR SHOW:
Unusual close-up flight scenes of Britain’s newest jets make the annual Farnborough air show a memorable sight, and reveal the caliber of the R.A.F.’s new ‘hardware’.

ATOMS FOR PEACE:
The international Atoms for Peace exhibit opens in Geneva, Switzerland, with U.N. Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold on hand and 20 nations displaying their progress in atomic power.

ROCK HUDSON ON LOCATION:
Rock Hudson – U-I star, returns from vacation for location filming in California’s lush Napa Valley of his new film, “THIS EARTH IS MINE”.

INTERNATIONAL BIKE RACE:
In France the 175-mile world’s professional championship bicycle race features a thrilling overland duel for nearly the entire length of the course between France’s Louis Bobet and Italy’s Ercole Baldini. Baldini wins after a sensational contest.

FORMOSA – U.S. HOPES FOR PEACE BUT READY WITH AID:
As the crisis centered on Quemoy and Matsu continues, America gives a demonstration of its unyielding support for Nationalist China. U.S. Marines and units of Chiang Kai Shek’s forces take part in joint maneuvers on the beaches of Formosa.

STRATO-JET GUNNERS:
An unusual target range trains B-47 gunners in Kansas. Tail sections containing radar-aimed cannon are lined up on the ground, blasting away at remote controlled “drone” targets.

EDEN WEDDING:
A romantic wedding on Italy’s Isle of Ischia shakes London society, as Amelia Eden, niece of former Prime Minister Anthony Eden, marries an Italian ferry-boat engineer.

FASHION GETS THE BOOT:
Fashion gets the boot – so to speak. In New York, the newest footwear is shown – boots in fancy leather, and high style colors. For evening, the knee-length boots are in 24 karat kid – or studded with diamonds!

PRISON RODEO:
In Oklahoma State Prison, cons who couldn’t stay out of trouble with the bulls are back at their old tricks – for fun – in what is billed as the world’s biggest rodeo, on either side of the wall.

ROY CAMPANELLA:
At a New York hospital, Dodger catcher Roy Campanella tells of progress in his fight against the near-total paralysis that has gripped him since January. Good news for his multitude of admirers and well-wishers.

7TH FLEET CONVOYS QUEMOY SUPPLIES:
While diplomatic talks between the U.S. and Red China resume, tension continues high in the Formosa Strait. The U.S. 7th Fleet convoys supply shipments to blockaded Quemoy, sailing up to the 3-mile territorial limit despite Red threats.

40 DIE IN TRAIN WRECK:
An estimated 40 persons die when a commuter train races through a half-open drawbridge over Newark Bay to plummet 50 feet into the inky bay, one of the worst tragedies in the New York – New Jersey area in years.

CHURCHILL GOLDEN WEDDING:
Sir Winston and Lady Churchill celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on the French Riviera. The camera flashes back to their wedding picture.

R.A.F.’s NEW “V” JET:
The R.A.F.’s new Victor bomber, ultra-modernistic in appearance, goes into operational service. The huge, sleek craft can outfly any fighter in the air today.

LAKE COMO FESTIVAL:
A water festival on Italy’s lovely lake Como looks back to the gallant tourneys and chivalric warfare of the 12th Century, to inspire a thrilling, colorful event.

SPORTS:
One of the most thrilling turf events of the year at the United Nations Handicap at Atlantic City. Clem defeats the bid of Round Table to become the top money-winner with a sensational race in the $100,000event.

U.S. Build-Up Affects Quemoy Crisis:
Tension in the Far East continues unabated, but America’s massive military build-up in the Formosa Strait alters the situation, as the strangling blockade of Quemoy is lifted by convoys that move supplies in, and move wounded out – including one American. Meanwhile, U.S. jets continue to patrol the skies.

ADAMS RESIGNS:
Presidential Assistant Sherman Adams makes a flying visit to Newport for a conference with Ike in which Adams submits his resignation, in the face of the three-month old controversy over his acceptance of gifts from industrialist Bernard Goldfine.

MISSILE FIRED INLAND:
From the submarine Grayback, the Navy fires a supersonic Regulus II missile at a target 200 miles inland, in California test that dramatically demonstrates its accuracy.

MONTY RETIRES:
Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery retires as Deputy Supreme Commander of NATO. The departure of the hero of El Alamein is marked by ceremonies at SHAPE Headquarters in France.

REBEL GOVERNMENT:
Algeria’s rebels set up a “provisional government” in Cairo, under Nasser’s wing, and receive immediate recognition from the Arab bloo. An omen of more trouble for France.

THOR TO R.A.F.:
The first U.S. Thor missiles arrive for service with the R.A.F. in England. Nuclear warheads of the intermediate range missiles will continue under U.S. control.

PITT TOPPLES UCLA – 27-6:
At Los Angeles’ Memorial Stadium, the underdog Pittsburgh Panters open the college grid iron season with a sensational upset of UCLA uncorking a slick, pro-type offense to score in every quarter and win 27-6.

FIRST AMERICA’S CUP ROUND:
A huge and colorful flotilla, dominated by the Presidential grandstand, the super-destroyer Mitscher, carri9es 20,000 out to see the first race between Britain’s Sceptre and America’s Columbia. Despite slack winds and a slow race, the Columbia comes in by a wide lead. On the second day, failing winds keep either yacht from finishing the 24 mile course within the 6-hour time limit.

STORMS RIP EASTERN U.S., JAPAN:
Hurricane Helene roars along the Carolinas and Virginia Capes, her 140 m.p.h. winds and slashing rains taking a high toll in property damages. But forewarned residents take cover and no life is lost. Central Japan reels under Typhoon Ida, one of the worst storms in the nation’s history. Nearly 600 die, thousands are injured or missing, while property damage alone is truly catastrophic in scope.

“OUI” FOR DE GAULLE:
A landslide victory for DeGaulle’s new constitution in France’s referendum. Record numbers go to the polls and tally a 4-1 majority, an overwhelming mandate for the new Fifth Republic.

NEWSMEN REACH QUEMOY:
Newsmen reach Quemoy for the first time in nearly 2 weeks, flown in by a blockade running supply plane to see how the off-shore island holds up under the Reds’ 2-month old barrage.

CARRIER TRAGEDY:
A moment of pride turns to horror, as Britain’s newest carrier jet fighter-bomber lands on HMS Victorious, and goes over the side when the arresting gear snaps. The pilot is trapped under the pastic canopy, with a rescue helicopter only feet away, within sight of the carrier, as the plane drags him down to death before hundreds of helpless onlookers.

AMERICA’S CUP:
Off Newport, R.I., America’s Gem of the Ocean, the racing yacht Columbia, completes a magnificent defense of the America’s Cup, most coveted trophy in yachting, with her fourth straight defeat of Sceptre, Britain’s graceful challenger.

OHIO 23 – S.M.U. 20:
A sensational battle of conversions at Columbus, as Buckeyes and Mustangs clash in a top intersectional game. The Mustangs brilliant passing offense, and the all-around excellence of the Buckeyes, rated Number 1 in America, produce 3 touchdowns each, but Ohio makes 5 points in conversions under new scoring rules, against S.M.U.’s 2, for the winning margin.

QUEMOY STANDOFF CONTINUES:
Another supply convoy reaches Quemoy despite the Red blockade. On Formosa, in a rare press conference, Chiang Kai Shek opposes reduction of garrisons on the off-shore Islands. In Peiping, the Reds rebuff U.S. peace bids with an enormous propaganda demonstration – massing an estimated three million to denounce America.

In Massachusetts, the Army Quartermaster Corp shows a new solar furnace capable of generating heat close to that of a nuclear explosion.

SKY DIVERS:
Marine dare-devils train in new free-fall para-jumping, plummeting thousands of feet before opening their chutes. Advantages are accuracy and less likelihood of enemy detection.

WORLD SERIES:
Highlights of World Series contests in Milwaukee, as the Braves take a 2-game lead over New York. In the thrill-packed opener, despite 2 Yankee HR’s – Milwaukee sends the game into extra innings, and Billy Bruton breaks it up with a liner off Ryne Duren to send home the winning run.

STROKE FELLS POPE:
Last films of the Pontiff, only hours before the cerebral circulatory disturbance that felled Pius XII. Only hours after his recovery from a bout of hiccups recalling his near-fatal illness of 1954, the Pope greets visitors, including a group of pilgrims led by Cardinal Spellman.

SEAWORLF UNDER 60 DAYS:
An amazing endurance record for the nuclear sub Seawolf, which surfaces off New London after 60 days underwater.

FRENCH FLOODS:
In Southern France, communications are disrupted, scores of villages ravaged by raging floods that take at least 33 lives.

DE GAULLE IN ALGERIA:
Following his landslide triumph in France’s constitutional ballot, De Gaulle flies to Algeria to cement his victory.

LOURDES CENTENNIAL:
In Washington, D.C., 100,000 observe the 100th anniversary of St. Bernadette’s visions at Lourdes.

NEW ARMY OFFENSE RIPS PENN:
At West Point, Army’s new “lonely end” formation proves lethal to the Nittany Lions. The Cadets’ speed and aerial attack is unstoppable, and Penn State loses 26-0.

MICHIGAN STATE, MICHIGAN, TIE:
A classic rivalry, between the Spartans and Wolverines, and a sensational battle. After the Wolverines run up a 12-0 score in the 1st half, the Spartans rally to tie it up!

WORLD MOURNS POPE:
As the world mourns the passing of Pius XII, the camera recalls highlights of the Pontiff’s reign, and of his earlier career as Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli, traveling throughout the world, as Vatican Secretary of State. Scenes show the splendor of the Papal Coronation, the Pope greeting U.S. G.I.’s during the war, and receiving pilgrims.

WEATHER STUDY SPANS 93 MILLION MILES:
On Sacramento Peak, New Mexico, an Air Force observatory studies the vast storms on the surface of the sun to learn their effect on our weather, with the aid of equipment that can produce artificial “eclipses” to order for scientists.

NEW YORK WINS SERIES!
In the seventh game of the World Series, the Yankees erupt in the eighth inning. With the score 2-2, and two out, Berra doubles, and scores on Howard’s single. Carey follows with another single, and Moose Skowron raps a home run over the left field fence to put the Yankees ahead 6-2.
