AROUND THE WORLD…EASTER MORNING
EASTER, with its message of Hope for mankind, is celebrated throughout the Christian world.
The ways are many, from sunrise services in the natural glory of Yosemite National Park to Saint Peter’s Square, Rome, where half a million people hear Pope Paul VI plead for peace. President and Mrs. Lyndon Johnson attend services in a small church in Texas. New York, of course, has its famous Easter Parade on Fifth Avenue.

HITCHCOCK PRESENTS: MOVIE TIPS TO NEWSPAPER EDITORS
Film Producer Alfred Hitchcock addresses the august American Society of Newspaper Editors in Washington, D.C., with the same irreverence that he shows to all audiences. He gives away few secrets of film-making, but makes cogent points about the difference between his job and that of the Editors.

Like the irresistible force that it is, the mighty Mississippi River continues to lay waste all in its flooding path. Every state along its swollen banks has suffered devastation. Towns below the crest, sandbag their defenses and hope for the best.

The nation’s Capital welcomes a staunch supporter of United States policy….Italian Premier Aldo Moro. The statesman strolls the grounds of the White House with President and Mrs. Johnson and is extended the rare honor of attending a Cabinet Meeting.

QUEEN CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY
Queen Elizabeth is 39. The Royal Family make it a real regal affair as they celebrate the occasion at Windsor Castle. Prince Philip, Princess Anne, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward all post for an informal portrait. Oh, yes! – the Welsh Corgis is included.

IT’S F A I R WEATHER!!

The new York World’s Fair opens for its second and final season on the optimistic note that it will do better than last year when it ran up a deficit of $17.5 million. Despite the fact that the admission charge has gone up to $2.50, officials expect to attract more than the 27 million who attended the fair last season.

MARINES IN ACTION:
A three-man junta has been named to rule the Doninican Republic as United States Marines move in to protect American lives. President Johnson ordered the landing as shooting continued in Santo Domingo despite the obvious collapse of the attempt to return ousted President Juan Bosch to power. The Marines liquidated two snipers who attacked the United States Embassy, in S.D. On the other side of the world, the Marines are in action in South Vietnam. They have been ordered to take the offensive against Red Viet Cong troops in a wide perimeter around Danang.

TEST PLANE CRASHES:
In the first public test of a $5,000,000 vertical takeoff plane, ‘disaster’ rides as the co-pilot. Lou Everett is killed as his experimental craft crashes during the demonstration.

WELCOME MEDICINE:
Ask any doctor! L A U G H T E R is the BEST medicine of all, especially for children. To prove that theory anew, Ringling Bros. Barnum-Bailey Circus visits Bellevue Hospital. You can see for yourself, the improvement among the patients……

UNDERWATER AQUARIUM:
Canadians have opened what must be the most unusual aquarium in the world. Located at Oak Bay, British Columbia, the exhibit maintains its own fleet of boats. Spectators enter an underwater viewing room and see the fish swimming in their natural element….outside in the sea, kept on the range with netting.

THE DOMINICAN REVOLT:
What began as a revolution by followers of exiled Dominican President Juan Bosch quickly deteriorated into outright anarchy when leadership was taken over by Communist agents. President Johnson ordered Marines into the country to protect Americans and others. Most of the 3,000 Americans were evacuated quickly and effectively. Within a week, the initial force of United States Marines were bolstered to 14,000 men….including paratroopers. In getting the job done, the Marines push the rebels from their strongholds in downtown Santo Domingo.

THE WORLD’S FAIR FROM ON HIGH:
There are ways to beat that mean malady – aching feet – while visiting New York’s World’s Fair….view it from the air! You’ve a choice – Helicopter or go aloft on the Monorail for a bird’s eye view. The “IN” experts say this is the speed transportation of the future – but here the tempo is leisurely so that you can get an eye-full. Come to the fair!!

THE KENTUCKY DERBY:
The sun shined bright on the classic horse race of them all – THE KENTUCKY DERBY. This year, the 91st running, was given an added (?) attraction when fire breaks out in the grandstand. The fire is quickly extinguished and the eleven starters get away in the Run for the Roses. “LUCKY DEBONAIR” gets away among the leaders – goes to the front in the last turn and just about hangs on to beat the oncoming “Dapper Dan”. Next, The Preakness, for this Kentucky-bred horse.

CEASE-FIRE BRINGS CALM TO DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
As United States Marine forces patrol the perimeter of the International zone in Santo Domingo, a five-man team from the Organization of American States, successfully negotiates a precarious cease-five. Wild fighting has ceased, but political maneuvering for power goes on. Death still stalks the streets of Santo Domingo: Two more Marines reported killed the day the truce went into effect…..

SMUGGLED EQUIPMENT TAKEN IN VIETNAM
A South Vietnamese attack on a Red Vietcong stronghold south of Saigon results in a rich prize – a great cache of arms – the largest ever uncovered, following a battle. An international Control Commission inspects the weapons. Some of the most modern Communist weapons yet captured.

CURTAIN GOING UP ON “500”
They’ve begun the count-down at Indianapolis as they tune up for the famous “Five Hundred”. Pretty girls and fine floats inaugurate the series of events that will be climaxed by the big race. “Sweet Sixteen” is the first car to make a shake-down run and Len Sutton hopes he will have it right in the camera’s eye for this year again M C A closed-circuit television will carry the race to theatres and arenas around the country.

BRITAIN’S WORLD SERIES SOCCER
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip head 100,000 fans at Wembley for the Cup Final – the biggest day on the English sporting scene. The game proves to be a cliffhanger right from the opening whistle. No one scores during the regular time, but in overtime, Liverpool manages two goals to defeat Leeds who can score but a single goal.

UNITED STATES FEEDS DOMINICANS: POWER STRUGGLE ON:
With an uneasy truce in effect in Santo Domingo, the second act is a maneuvering for power between the rebels and the military junta. Rebels claim the constitutional President is Colonel Francisco Caamano Deno, a professional soldier who received Marine training in the U.S.A. Opposing him is the new junta choice of General Antonio
Imbert Barrerras.

Meanwhile, the United States has turned attention to the humanitarian task of feeding the people, regardless of their political philosophy. More than 250,000 pounds of food is being distributed daily.

SAN SALVADOR ‘QUAKE:
El Salvador, Central American nation with a long history if disastrous earthquakes is hard hit again. This tremor centers around San Marcos and Santo Tomas, near the capital of San Salvador. Over 100 are dead – more than 700 injured.

HIGH SPEED COMMUTERS:
The first commercial application of the hovercraft is soon to get underway in San Francisco. The radical craft is to operate across the Bay to Oakland, under government subsidy. Backers of the project are hopeful the low-flying hovercraft has a high-flying future.

BARKING UP THE RIGHT TREE:
The Afghan hound and his cousin, the greyhound, are top dogs in Germany as the racing season gets underway. Radical camera angles reveal the beauty of both breeds as they tear down the track like it was a call-to-dinner!

HAVING’ A DUNKIN’ GOOD TIME:
Another season underway in Germany is the sport of kayak racing as 115 clubs from five nations compete in the curtain-raiser for the European championships. Low water and strong currents make this years’ race one of the toughest in its ten-year history.

JOHNSON VOWS TO FIGHT UNTIL REDS PARLEY:
President Johnson reaffirms United States policy in South Vietnam in a talk to the Association of American Cartoonists. These social satirists hear the President describe Red China as a hungry tiger ready to devour all of Asia, using North Vietnam as a cat’s paw to its own aggressive ends.

MOSCOW MISSILE MIGHT:
Moscow seizes the opportunity on the 20th anniversary of the downfall of Hitler to display her military strength. Not in years has Russia mounted such a calculated propaganda display – and on the same day shot a rocket to the moon for a “soft” landing.

A NEW STAR SHINES BRIGHT:
Claudia Cardinale is making her first film in the United States – “Blindfold”, starring Rock Hudson. A press reception introduces this Italian beauty who has won acclaim as the happiest invention since spaghetti. Milton Rackmil, Universal Pictures President, adds a bouquet to the many Miss Cardinale has received.

‘CHUTES ‘N RECORDS BOTH FALL:
The U.S. Army Parachute Team – the Golden Knights – show the precision jumping that has brought the nation a new set of international records. They hit the bull’s eye so often that they set 69 new world’s records – giving the United States 93 out of a possible 128 global marks.

BRITAIN DIDICATES KENNEDY MEMORIAL:
There is a little corner of England that will always be American. At Runnymede, Queen Elizabeth escorts Mrs. John F. Kennedy and her children to ceremonies dedicating a Memorial to the assassinated President. The monument is a seven-ton block of Portland stone resting in a three-acre meadow that has been deeded to the United States. It was here at Runnymede in 1215 that the barons of England forced King John to sign the Magna Carta – a document that is the basis of all freedom we enjoy today. What better place for a memorial to a man who belonged to all free men and will be ever mourned by them.

“500” QUALIFYING TRIALS:
Tens of thousands are on hand to see the field qualify for the Indianapolis Five Hundred. M C A Closed Circuit Television is bringing the classic to theatres and arenas all across the nation – giving everyone a chance to see qualifiers like Parnelli Jones, Jim Clark, Mario Andretti and A. J. Foyt. “A.J.” qualified easily, establishing a new track record for the trials.

“THE PREAKNESS”:
The “second jewel” in the mythical Triple Crown – “The Preakness” sees nine thoroughbreds chasing “FLAG RAISER” for six furlongs. Then, the pace-setter fades and “TOM ROFLE” and “DAPPER DAN” put on a stretch duel that has the crowd screaming. “TOM ROFLE” cuts across the track next to “DAPPER DAN” and a foul is claimed – but disallowed, twenty minutes later, and the classy little horse goes to the winner’s circle to eat the black-eyed susans. Next – BELMONT.

ELIZABETH IN BONN:
The union Jack is the banner of the hour in West Germany as 5,000 people greet Queen Elizabeth of England in Bonn as she arrives for an 11-day state visit. This is the first time a ruling British Monarch has visited Germany since the reign of King Edward VII (56 years ago). The Queen’s great-great grandmother, Victoria, was a Hanover, descended from the Elector of Hanover, who married a British Princess. So, Elizabeth has returned to the home of her ancestors.

PAKISTANI DEATHS IN THOUSANDS:
One of the worst disasters in history hits East Pakistan. A cyclone and wind-fed tidal waves battered the countryside with unbelievable devastation. There are 12,000 known dead with fears the toll will reach 30,000.

AVALANCHE TRAPS GERMAN SKIERS:
Laughter and gaiety was suddenly stilled at a German resort by an avalanche. Rescue teams search day and night at Garmisch-Partenkirchen for those missing. 25 skiers were rescued but ten persons perished.

VARIETY CLUBS AWARD:
Doctor Hulda E. Thelander is awarded the International Variety Clubs Humanitarian Award for her work among children for the past forty years. The presentation is made at the International Variety Clubs’ convention in San Francisco, where it was reported that the Club raised $8,800,000 last year to aid children.

NEW OCEAN QUEEN:
A new queen rules the waves – the MICHELANGELO completes her maiden voyage in New York. She receives a loud welcome as she sails stately up the Bay to her pier – the very MOST in luxury plus! There are 11 decks of Deluxe-lined comfort.
