Vietnam 1965: Combat Casualties & Dust Off Rescues

Medical Evacuations and Battlefield Casualties in Vietnam

About This Footage

This rare 1965 Vietnam War footage documents the harsh realities of combat casualties and frontline medical evacuations. Wounded soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division are carried on litters to waiting UH-1D Dust Off helicopters for rapid transport to field hospitals, while others walk unaided or receive immediate care upon landing. Scenes show American soldiers in body bags, Vietcong prisoners receiving medical treatment, and medics struggling to save lives under fire. Additional footage captures ambulances arriving at field hospitals, a Major General visiting the wounded, and an American officer questioning captured Vietcong fighters through an ARVN interpreter. A powerful historical record of battlefield medicine and evacuation during the Vietnam War.
