The Capture Of Tarawa From Japan
The capture of Tarawa from Japan, Operation Galvanic. The largest invasion fleet ever assembled in the Pacific moves toward Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands. Men on-board the troop transport ships were the 2nd Marine Division and a part of the army's 27th Infantry Division. Men bow their heads in pray at ship board church service. Naval bombardment commenced at dawn. After the naval bombardment the Marines establish a beachhead under intense fire.
Show the destruction of the Japanese gun emplacements and fortifications. Bodies of dead Japanese soldiers. Destroyed Japanese coastal guns. Shows Korean slave laborers found on island. Shows construction equipment being used to repair the bomb damaged airfield.
