Allies forces advance from Normandy beachheads. Allied reenforcement troops pour onto Normandy beaches and cut a wide path across the Cherbourg Peninsula (Cotentin Peninsula). Low aerial views of Normandy beachheads. Thousands of Allied soldiers, equipment, and supplies landing in Normandy after the D-Day invasion. Shows DUKWs, amphibious vehicles coming ashore. German prisoners POW's are marched to the beaches and loaded onto landing crafts to be transported back to England for internment.
Captured German film shows German coastal defenses before the Normandy invasion. German General Rommel and General von Rundstedt inspecting coastal fortifications in France. German troops move large shells for the coastal guns.
Allied Troops are welcomed by the liberated French people. Army Engineers using motor graders to construct airstrips. General Dwight D. Eisenhower and General George Marshall are one of the first of the High Command to land by plane and embark on a tour of the Normandy battlefields. Scattered fleet of gliders that landed Allied troops behind the German lines, with most damaged upon landing. Batteries of heavy artillery under camouflage netting firing. A 105 mm , M7 "Priest" track-mounted, self-propelled artillery gun underway. Battlefield first aid station tends to Allies and Axis soldiers alike. Army nurse kneeling next to a wounded Allied soldier on stretcher.
