Top Secret Radio Proximity Fuse Helps To Win The War

Cu images of the key people behind the development of the proximity fuze (fuse), Physicist Merle A. Tuve, Dr Vannevar Bush, and Alexander Elliot. The proximity fuze was made possible by a tiny radio tube, shows comparison of standard radio tube and the tiny radio tube used in a proximity fuze (fuse). Shows proximity fuze being fitted into the nose of a bomb.

Animated diagram shows the path of fragments of a bomb fitted with a contact fuze, a delayed action fuze, and a VT proximity fuze. Animated diagram shows a fighter plane firing a rocket fitted with a VT proximity fuze. The fuze sets up zones of sensitivity and explodes with an air burst when near target aircraft. The proximity fuze is credited with the ability of U.S. Forces to shoot down V-2 rockets and Kamikaze planes.
