Hell's 50 Acres 9-alarm Fire Rages In NYC Loft Area
Three firemen die as a roaring inferno rages through one building in Manhattan's lower Broadway loft area and spreads to two adjoining structures. Long a breeding place for costly blazes the nine-alarm blaze is battled at night and on into the next day. Night scenes of firemen fighting a five-story building fire.

In Columbia, Mo, the Kansas Jayhawks football team topple unbeaten Missouri 23-7, crushing the stonewall defense of the Tigers and storming to a decisive victory to win the Big 8 conference football title in 1960.
Historical Note:
However, after it was later found Kansas had used an ineligible player Kansas was forced to forfeit their victories over Missouri and Colorado so Missouri was then awarded the 1960 Big Eight football title.
