Japanese Paper Balloon Fu-Go - Secret Weapon To Attack The U.S.
From late 1944 until early 1945, the Japanese launched over 9300 fire balloons or bomb balloons, of which 300 were found or observed in the U.S. Despite the high hopes of their designers, the balloons were ineffective as weapons, causing only six deaths (from one single incident) and a small amount of damage.
Shows a Fu-Go Japanese paper “fire balloon” or “balloon bomb” in flight drifting toward the United States and Canada during WW2. Animated map showing route travelled after release from the Nagoya district in Japan and floated to the West Coast of the United States. These Japanese paper balloons have been found all the way from Alaska to the Mexican border.
