Aerial view of the American 3rd fleet sailing through Japanese waters on the way to Tokyo Bay. Shows Admiral Halsey on the battleship USS Missouri. On Okinawa hundred of transport planes stand ready to fly the 11th Airborne Division to Tokyo. First American transport plane with the Commander of the 11th Airborne Division, Major General Joseph Swing onboard, lands at Atsugi Airfield. Japanese Officers walk out to meet General Swing's plane. Major General Swing and Lieutenant General Robert Eichelberger, 8th Army Commander, confer with the Japanese. American flag is placed on top of Base Operations building at Atsugi Airfield. More transports land with more American occupation troops. Unarmed Japanese Military Police are put under Allied control.

Admiral Nimitz is piped aboard the USS Missouri to congratulate Admiral Halsey. Japanese harbor pilots come along side the cruiser USS San Diego to guide Task Force 31 into Tokyo Bay. Image of "out of action" Japanese battleship Nagato in the harbor. Ship and crew is taken into custody by the Navy. Landing crafts land U.S. Marines at opposite the Yokosuka Naval Base and raise the American flag. More Marines land to occupy the Yokosuka Naval Base. The cruiser USS San Diego (CL-53) docks at Yokosuka. Shows brief Japanese surrender ceremony as Yokosuka passes into American hands. American flag is raised over Yokosuka. Supreme Commander Douglas MacArthur lands at Atsigi Airfield and is greeted by General Eichelberger. Shows American prisoners of war greeting the American soldiers. American soldiers riding in Japanese trucks spread out to secure and occupy the area around Tokyo.

Adm. Halsey, on the battleship Missouri, observes 400 Navy ships sailing into Tokyo Bay. The 11th Airborne Div. lands at a Tokyo airport and Gen. Eichelberger receives the surrender of the garrison. Adm. Nimitz boards the Missouri. The cruiser San Diego docks at Yokosuku. Gen. MacArthur arrives. American prisoners are released from Japanese prisons.
