BYRNES SET FIRM POLICY FOR GERMANY
STUTTGART – The U.S. Secretary of State, in a firm bid for post-war settlement of the German question, urges that the Big Four let the Germans form a central government, but he says that U.S. troops will stay as long as there are occupation forces in Germany.

STRIKES TIE UP U.S. PORTS
All U.S. ports are crippled by shipping strike as unions stand firm on dispute over pay rise. In Seattle, picket lines parade on piers and hundreds of ships are idle.

PARIS, FRANCE – Secretary of State Byrnes, whose dealings with foreign powers have put the U.S. in the van of those nations combating the spread of Communism, is shown during an important meeting with his advisory staff.

KOREANS HAIL FREEDOM
SEOUL, KOREA – Hailing the first anniversary of their liberation from the Japs thousands of Koreans jam the city to witness an impressive parade by U.S. Occupation forces and native troops.

SPECTACULAR TRAIN WRECK
KANSAS CITY, MO. – Flames fed by gas and oil from tank cars turn the wreck of a 76-car freight into a raging inferno that burns fiercely for many hours. Spectacular night blaze is seen for miles around.

DISPLACE PERSONS CAMP
UPPER, AUSTRIA – Fifteen hundred refugees of Jewish descent live in this UNRRA-sponsored camp at Admont, dreaming of the day when they can go to Palestine. They raise most of the food they eat.

MUROC ARMY BASE, CAL. – An XP-84 “Thunderjet,” latest jet-propelled fighter plane, sets a new U.S. record of 619 miles per hour during thrilling speed runs. Unofficially, the mark set was higher than world’s record.

HELICOPTERS RESCUE 18 SURVIVORS
GANDER, NEWFOUNDLAND – Dramatic pictures of the thrilling rescue of 18 persons who survived the terrible crash of the Belgian airliner. Rescue teams of helicopters, flying boats and Army ground units, affected the daring operation. 26 others lost their lives in the crash. Newsreel cameras record the gripping saga of mercy for those who lived.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Henry A. Wallace, Commerce Secretary who spoke out against our foreign policy as exemplified by State Secretary Byrnes at Paris, resigns his post at the request of Pres. Truman.
