ON THE SEA – The S.S. HSICHANG, CHINA – An American Graves Registration party arrives among the wild Lolo tribesmen of southwest China, to seek traces of B-29 crew members believed to have been held in slavery since the plane crashed in 1945. Bodies of four victims of the crash are recovered.

CHIC CHAPEAUX
NEW YORK – Lilly Dache, inspired by Ginger Rogers’ portrayal of Dolly Madison in the forthcoming motion picture “Magnificent Doll,” unveils some of her winter millinery creations, modeled as usual, by a collection of lovelies.

GREEK WAR ANNIVERSARY
ATHESN – Greeks celebrate the sixth anniversary of their war against the Axis. Attacked by Italy in 1940, it took the might of the German Wehrmacht to subdue the valiant country.

PRO PIGSKIN PARADE
The New York Giants brush the Philadelphia Eagles off their perch, in a 45 to 17 upset at New York, tumbling the Phils into third place. Meantime at Los Angeles, the Chicago Bears take the L.A. Rams into camp, 27 to 21.

ARMY AND NOTRE DAME IN GRID TRIUMPHS
PHILADELPHIA – Army-Penn! The Cadets keep their slate clean with a 34-7 victory over Pennsylvania before 78,000 fans. Glenn Davis is sparkplug for the victorious Black Knights.

SOUTH BEND – Notre Dame-Northwestern! The Irish suffer from opponent-trouble for several periods before getting up steam against the Wildcats, but they score impressive 27-0 victory.

STUDIO STRIKE VIOLENCE
HOLLYWOOD – Bombings, and mass arrests of pickets, mark the strike scene in the film capital, where production of entertainment for millions is still crippled. Worker protests blasting of home, and police are busy rounding up pickets.

JAPAN’S NEW CONSTITUTION
TOKYO – Huge throngs of loyal Japanese demonstrate near the Diet building during ceremonies at which Emperor Hirobito announces the new Constitution. The Empress attends the colorful and historic rites.

NEW TORPEDO SINKS U-BOAT
OFF CAPE COD – The Navy uses its newest and deadliest torpedo to send a captured Nazi submarine to the bottom of the Atlantic. These dramatic pictures show the new weapon in action – and the blast!

TRIESTE – Rioting breaks out for the first time in weeks when parading Italian students, celebrating the city’s liberation from Austria 28 years ago, run head on into police and are dispersed.

LEWIS UP FOR TRIAL
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Turned down by Judge Goldsborough in his request for a trial postponement, John L. Lewis and his United Mine Workers are ordered to appear and face charges arising out of the Government’s contempt action for calling the soft-coal strike. The nation faces a serious threat to its reconversion economy.

NEW CHILEAN PRESIDENT
SANTIAGO – Gabriel Videla, popular front leader who did not win a majority of votes in the national election, is confirmed as president by the Chilean Congress, and installed in office during impressive inaugural ceremonies.

F.D.R. SHRINE IN LONDON
LONDON – In Grosvenor Square Garden, near the American Embassy, a British sculptor will erect a ten-foot memorial statue of the late U.S. President. The garden shrine will be completed in 1948.

CATTLE SHIP CAPSIZES
LIVERPOOL – Tragic aftermath of a British ship collision. Hundreds of cattle are drowned when the Stormont collided with the Empire Brent and capsized. Passengers on the larger liner are delayed getting to Canada.

TRAIN DOGS FOR BYRD TRIP
WONALANSET, N.H. – High in the White Mountains, special crews are training Siberian Huskies that will go along wit Admiral Byrd on his coming expedition to Little America in the Antarctic.

ENGLAND – Good news for war-weary British kids – and their parents – are these pictures of the “Big Top” getting in readiness for the circus season. See the daring “Dive Bomber” stunt on horse-back!

NEW ORLEANS – Playing near perfect football, the Fighting Irish treat a record Dixie crowd to thrills galore as they ride roughshod over the Tulane Green Wave, 41-0.

OREGON STATE WINS
CORVALLIS, ORE. – The Beavers down the Ducks in a sea of mud at Bell Field, with the Oregon State gridders winning, 13-0.

U.C.L.A. TRIPS U.S.C.
LOS ANGELES – In the mud, before 93,700 fans, the Bruins win a bitter 13-6 victory over the Trojans.

HOLLYWOOD – This gala reminder of Christmas (Have you started your shopping yet?) comes from the screen capital, where Santa Claus Lane is brilliant with colorful floats and screen stars.

LYBIA KIDS RETURN HOME
NAPLES – Children of Italian settlers in Lybia, torn from their homes during the war, embark on their return voyage. The group of 700youngsters is happy to go home again after the long war-time separation.

NAZI GENERALS ON TRIAL
ROME – Generals Mackensen and Maeltzer appear before the British Military Court accused of being war criminals, charged with reprisals and cruelty during the recapture by the Allies of the Holy City.

FLOOD THREATENS ROME
ROME – The rain Italy prayed for last month comes now with a vengeance, leaving in its wake two known dead and many injured. The Tiber River is at flood level, and the streets are like rivers.

“PRES. WILSON” LAUNCHED
ALAMEDA, CALIF. – The S.S. President Wilson, 22,900-ton luxury liner and largest commercial vessel built in West Coast yards, slides down the ways at the Bethlehem-Alameda yards. Big bid for U.S. shipping honors.

SWITZERLAND – Dramatic pictures of the daring rescue of twelve persons on the Army C-53 transport that crash-landed on an Alpine glacier. Swiss climbers fight their way to bring aid to the injured, and ski-planes land nearby to evacuate the survivors.

ARMY-NAVY THRILLER
PHILADELPHIA – The gridiron thriller of the year! The gallant Midshipmen of Annapolis, only a few seconds and a few yards from defeating the greatest Army team, lose by a scant three points when the clock runs out. The score: 21-18.

NOTRE DAME TOPS U.S.C.
SOUTH BEND – The Fighting Irish wind up a banner football season, smothering Southern Cal under a relentless 26-6 victory, and achieving an unbeaten record for the year.

GEORGIA HALTS GA. TECH
ATHENS – With Charlie Trippi scoring three touchdowns, the Bulldogs roll to a 35-7 win over the Tech Engineers. It’s Georgia’s first perfect season since 1896, and they play North Carolina in the Sugar Bowl.

BYRD SHIPS OFF FOR ANTARCTIC
While Admiral Byrd prepares last minute plans for the forthcoming South Polar expedition, several ships that are taking part set sail from East Coast ports (the Northwind from Boston) for the icy Polar regions where the American expedition will continue research begun years ago.

MEXICO’S PRESIDENT INSTALLED
MEXICO CITY – Scenes of impressive military splendor unfold in the ancient city as Miguel Aleman takes over the reigns of office from Pres. Camacho. Dignitaries from many nations take part in the colorful inaugural rites.

LIVESTOCK ON PARADE
CHICAGO – It’s Junior Day at the Internat’l Livestock Exposition, and the youngsters display their prize-winning steers, horses, pigs and lambs. Blue-ribbon monarchs of the livestock world take a bow.

MAGNIFICENT PREMIERE
CINCINNATI – Ginger Rogers aids War Nurses Memorial Fund during colorful premiere of “The Magnificent Doll.” Hollywood notables attend the gala showing at the Keith Theatre.

CHRISTMAS IN THE AIR
NEW YORK – Manhattan’s gala Pre-Christmas parade of helium-inflated balloons and colored boats thrills countless thousands along Broadway. (Except Philadelphia)

NEW YORK – Eight are known dead, thirty-eight injured, and many others still missing following the collapse of a tenement house building. Firemen and police, using cranes and other equipment, fight their way through the wreckage to rescue survivors.

FIRST FOOT-BOWL GAME
TOLEDO – In perfect football weather, a gala throng attends inaugural classic in the Glass Bowl, and sees the Toledo “Rockets” burst over the hitherto unbeaten Bates eleven from Maine. Final score: 21-12.

SCIENCE AIDS FISHERMEN
BRITISH COLUMBIA – When Canadian fishermen stalk the finny herring in coastal waters, war-time sound devices are used to locate the hidden schools. The 1946 catch is setting new records – thanks to science.

CARDINAL’S XMAS PARTY
NEW YORK – Little children at the N.Y. Foundling Home are entertained at a Christmas Party given by Cardinal Spellman. The choir boys from St. Vincent Ferrer’s sing carols for the young orphans.

HOOVER AIDS GREEK RELIEF
NEW YORK – The former President –now honorary chairman of the Greek Relief fund drive – appeals for funds to help a former ally recover from war’s wounds. Starving Greek children need your help, he says.

ARMY PLANE CRASH LANDS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – When one landing gear won’t come down, the pilot of this B-25 Mitchell bomber brings her down to a neat one-wheel landing, without injuries to crew. The plane is slightly damaged.

U.N. AND BIG FOUR ADJOURN-VOTE NEW YORK SITE
NEW YORK – Ending their present session on a note of optimism, the United Nations, and the Big Four Ministers Conference, adjourn until 1947. Secretary Byrnes reveals census of U.S. troops abroad at final General Assembly session, where delegates vote to accept Manhattan site offered by John D. Rockefeller. Britain’s Bevin and Russia’s Molotov both sail for home on the “Queen Elizabeth.”

EUROPA SINKS AFTER STORM
LE HAVRE – The former German luxury liner, turned over to the French and renamed “Liberte,” rests on the harbor bottom where she sank part way after ramming the sunken hulk of the “Paris” during a severe storm.

FLOODS SWEEP NORTHWEST
KENT, WASH. – Heavy rains and melting snow combine to bring about the worst floods in more than a decade in Western Washington valleys, where many acres of rich farmland are inundated, and hundreds are homeless.

FOOTBALL HIGHLIGHTS
BEARS WIN PRO GRID TITLE
NEW YORK – Pro football finals! The Chicago Bears, sparked by Luckman, topple the N.Y. Giants in National League playoff, at the Polo Grounds. Frank Filchock stars for the losers, passing for both Giant touchdowns. Final score: 24-14.

RIOT ENDS SCHOOL THRILLER
PHILADELPHIA – Rioting breaks out at the West Catholic-Northeast High School football game, even before the final whisle blows. Hundreds of fans swarm out on Franklin field to take part in melee. Northeast High won the game, 33-20.
