Note: John McCain tore up the script for the Republican National Convention scheduled to start Monday September 1, 2008 as Hurricane Gustav churned toward New Orleans. "We will act as Americans," not partisans, he declared.

Call to order of the Republican National Convention: Mike Duncan, RNC Chairman.
Mike Duncan called on everyone to contribute to the American Red Cross by cell phone using a program called “Text To Help” in relief of the victims of hurricane Gustav.
Convention Business is then conducted.
Kevin McCarthy, Congressman from California, presents the 2008 Republican Platform.
Congressman McCarthy then discussed the People’s Platform as presented by the Platform Committee.
Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina speaks about the Republican Platform.
The 2008 Republican Party Platform is adopted.
00:43:21:00---00:58:50:00 Laura Bush addresses the convention with a focus on the people of the Gulf Coast States as hurricane Gustav bears down on that region. Each Governor of that region gives a video presentation starting with Governor Rick Perry of Texas, Governor Bob Riley of Alabama, Governor Charlie Crist of Florida, and Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi. Mrs. Bush is then joined on stage by Cindy McCain. Remarks by Mrs. McCain.
