Synopsis: Documenting how radiation in the upper atmosphere is monitored. Fall-out from natural and man-made radioactive debris rides the upper air currents and falls silently back to earth to find its way into our food supply. Cattle grazing in a pasture, butcher cutting meat, preparing meat for sale to public. At an AEC Laboratory, atmospheric samples are tested to determine the amount of radiation and geographic distribution. Shows a typical high-altitude sampling mission including planning and launching of balloon, tracking of balloon in flight and recovery of a radiation-sampling balloon. Images of plane and crew tracking a sampling balloon in flight. Operation Hibal: Air Force High Altitude Balloon Sampling.
