An automobile with an American flag painted on top leave the Embassy compound in . Hundreds flee by train and by boat on the Yangtze River. The U.S. gunboat Panay is attacked and abandoned by the crew as it begins to sink. Survivors, including dead and wounded, take to lifeboat to escape. Shows survivors in reeds on bank of Yangtze River. Shows the Panay sinking. Shows survivors receiving medical aid in Chinese village and are transported to British and American warships at sea.
Japanese ground troops press attack on Nanking with artillery and machine gun fire. Shows American flag draped coffins on ship. Wounded from U.S. Panay brought ashore. Japanese troops give Banzai Battle Cry or Battle Charge and enter Nanking with tanks, infantry troops, and Cavalry as Chinese crowds looks on.
