New Plane breaks speed record in first U.S. Flight. A TWA Constellation flies from California to Washington D.C. in less than seven (7) hours. Howard Hughes and Jack Fry the plane’s co-pilots are welcomed to the Capitol. Shows Army troops boarding a military version of the Constellation.

Mount Vesuvius, a volcano outside of Naples, Italy erupts. The lava flow reaches San Sebastiano as black ash rains down on Salerno 17 miles away. Shows huge cloud of smoke and ash from volcano. Villages are evacuated in the path of the lava flow. Close-up of the lava flow destroying everything in its path. Shows burning vineyards (orchards) and collapsing buildings.
