U.N.-MIDDLE EAST
New York: U.S. Ambassador Goldberg answers Soviet-Arab demands for Israel troop withdrawal and war damage payments by urging a long-range look at Mideast differences, toward permanent peace. Jericho: Arab refugees continue in a mass exodus into Jordan, crossing twisted wrecks or bridges, leaving Israeli-occupied areas.

CLAY
Deposed heavyweight champion Cassius Clay is found guilty on draft-evasion charges and sentenced to five years in prison and fined $10,000, the maximum penalty. Released on bail, he awaits a decision on his appeal, which could take 18 months.

NEW DELHI RIOT
Indian students storm the Communist Chinese Embassy in New Delhi, following the expulsion of two Indian diplomats from Peking on spying charges. Eight Chinese aides are beaten, as their Embassy is stoned, their flag ripped down.

MOVIE FUND
MCA Board Chairman Jules Stein announces that Universal will produce a major film whose profits will go toward the Motion Picture Relief Fund. A search is already underway for a suitable "blockbuster" property. Unions and Guilds pledge cooperation.

H-BOMB FALLOUT
Red China announces the explosion of an H-bomb and world, scientists.., particularly in Japan..., speed air sample measurements for radioactive fallout. Tokyo tests show a steep increase in radiation but no human menace is predicted for the east or west atmosphere.

ROYAL ASCOT Pomp, pageantry, tradition, fashion...and some horseracing...mingle as Royal Ascot racing week opens in England. Among the celebrities: derby-hatted Bing Crosby. Among the highlights: an exotic collection of ladies headgear!

MOTO-CROSS RACE Motorcycles bounce, bump, and leap across rugged country in Czechoslovakia for the World's Mote-Cross Championships. Germany's Paul Friedrichs wins after a rough, rocky ride.

SUMMIT TALKS
President Johnson and Premier Kosygin meet in two summit talks at Glassboro, N. J. Between the talks: sightseeing at Niagara Falls for the Russian Premier. At meeting's end: Lyndon B. Johnson calls the talks "useful;" Kosygin remains firm on Mideast and Vietnam.

NIXON-DAYAN
Former Vice-President Richard Nixon tours Israel on a fact-finding trip. He meets with Defense Minister Moshe Dayan in Tel Aviv and also talked with David Ben-Gurion, General Rabin, and U.S, Ambassador Barbour.

MEREDITH MARCH
Civil rights figure James Meredith resumes his "march against fear" through Mississippi. Along the way, he urges Blacks to vote in the upcoming Gubernatorial election.

ADEN
Ten British soldiers are among 51 killed in a local Arab war in the small township of Crater in Aden. Rival factions want control of Crater following independence from Britain.

LAGOS
Thousands of Nigerian Moslems celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed in a day of parades, feasting, family carnival, Military and political leaders urge prayers for peace and unity.

ANTI-VIET DEMO
Thousands of anti-Vietnam war demonstrators scuffle with police near the Los Angeles hotel where President Johnson addresses a Democratic fundraising dinner, several were arrested.

SWEDISH ARTILLERY
Sweden unveils its newest field artillery piece, a mobile, long-range nuclear cannon with a firing range of sixteen miles, It replaces French-made howitzers and is totally Swedish-made.

RYUN'S RECORD
Flyin' Jim Ryun breaks his own world record for the mile, shaving two-tenths of a second for a 3:51.1 performance. His final quarter-mile of 53.5 seconds is what does it.

LUNAR MODULE
The Apollo moon-shoot takes another big step forward with the shipment of "Lem-One" to Cape Kennedy. "Lem-One" is the "space sidecar" that'll take two American astronauts from the Apollo mother-ship to the moon's surface, and back again.

'COPTER RECORD
A weird-looking aircraft, a cross between a helicopter and a stubby-winged jet, sets a rotorcraft speed record of over 302 mph in an experimental flight. It's the Army's "XH-51A."

FROGMEN
A team of eight U.S. Navy Frogmen show the public how it's done in a demonstration in the Hudson River, off Manhattan's shore. Their underwater demolition work leads the way for amphibious landings.

ARABS PRAY
After 20 years, Israeli Arabs pray at their Holy Mosques in the Old City of Jerusalem. Formerly, Jordan barred all Israelis, Arab or Jew, from visiting their shrines in the city. The Israel government has pledged the opening of shrines to people of all faiths.

SHIP SINKING
A German tanker, crippled off the Azores, is abandoned by its owners who request the Royal Navy to sink her. Homing torpedoes from a nuclear sub do a quick, efficient job of removing the dangerous hazard to Atlantic shipping.

OLDEST MAN
The world's oldest man, Shirali Mislimov, recently observed his 163rd birthday in his mountain village home by the Caspain Sea in Russia. He doesn't smoke or drink; is happy with his third wife and urges hard work and kindness for a long, full life.

SUMMER IN THE CITY
Hot weather hits the city with a combination of effects. Children, girl-watchers, popsicle-lickers, lawn-lollers, and hydrant-sprayers combine in a seasonal panorama spiced by a magnificent melange of "mini-skirts."

MIDDLE-EAST
The U.N. General Assembly rejects Russia's resolution to brand Israel the aggressor in the Middle East, while voiding the annexation of Jerusalem. Arab and Israeli forces exchange shots across the Suez Canal to break the temporary truce.

PRISONER EXCHANGE
At the Allenby Bridge, Israel and Jordan exchange prisoners. Two Israeli pilots and 424 Jordanian troops go to their respective homelands in a swap supervised by the Red Cross.

NEW CARDINALS
Pope Paul elevates 24 new Cardinals from four continents in simple ceremonies in the Vatican's Sistine Chape. The new Princes of the Church include four Americans.

QUEEN IN CANADA
Queen Elizabeth, with Prince Phillip, continues her week-long visit in observance of Canada's centennial with an address to Parliament in Ottawa followed by a giant children's party.

JACKIE & DE VALERA
Jacqueline Kennedy visits with 84-year old Irish President Eamon De Valera in Dublin during her vacation in Ireland. Later, she's guest of honor at a State Dinner.

LYNDON B. JOHNSON GRANDSON
13-day old "Lyn" Nugent, President Johnson's grandson, is christened in a tiny Catholic Church near the Lyndon B. Johnson Ranch, Aunt Lynda Bird and friend Joe Batson are stand-in, proxy god-parents for Pat Nugent's brother and sister-in-law.

WED-IN
Nine couples are married in a mass "Wed-In" at Brooklyn's Prospect Park. It's the Park Department's idea and officials called it "lovely." For the brides-and-grooms, everything was free from formal attire to honeymoon.

CANADIAN OPEN
Billy Casper's birdie on eighteen coupled with Art Wall's three-putt bogey six, throws the Canadian Open into a playoff which Casper wins easily by 4 strokes with a six-under-par 65.

VIETCONG'S TACTICS
Vietcong's favorite tactic - the Ambush - Operation Greeley. South Vietnamese truck convoy ambushed, trucks destroyed, soldiers killed. Helicopter lands U.S. First Cavalry in mountain province to move against Vietcong.

CHICHESTER KNIGHTED
Sir Francis Chichester arriving in London on the Gypsy Moth and being knighted by Queen Elizabeth in public ceremony. The first within memory....for his feat of circling the globe alone in a tiny sailboat.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY
Children in New York's Harlem receive gifts and free movie show as part of a Christmas in July party sponsored by Police Square Club to foster better relations between public and police. Commissioner Howard Leary and Club President Wm. Moriarity attended.

JEWEL FASHIONS
A unique fashion show while cruising around Manhattan Island, Models wear a million dollars worth of diamonds from Cartier, Harry Winston, Van Cleaf and Arpels.

COMMONWEALTH TRACK MEET
At Los Angeles Coliseum, in U.S.-British Commonwealth track and field meet, Jim Ryun, 20 year-old University of Kansas sophomore sets world's record in the 1500 Meters, 3:33.1, defeating Kenya's Kipchogue Keino. Ryun already holds world's record in mile.

BULLS OF PAMPLONA
Bulls racing through narrow streets with amateur bullfighters risking life and limb to get close to them. Home-made matadors get trampled and bowled over in Plaza DeToros.

Night and daytime views of torrential rain, evacuees, damaged buildings, as Typhoon Billie_ dumps foot of rain on Kobe, Japan.

HELICOPTER ATTACK
Chopper of. 334th Armed Helicopter Company attacks suspected Vietcong hideout 15 miles northwest of Saigon with mini-guns that fire six thousand rounds per minute and 2.75 inch rockets.

SUEZ SCENES
Israeli tanks and jeeps at Quantara, hit by Egyptian gun fire. Next morning, Israeli flag raised over camp, soldiers pray before resuming posts.

ALL STAR GAME
National League defeats American League two to one, showing all three runs scored on homers by third basemen, Richie Allen, Philadelphia . . . Brooks Robinson, Baltimore...Tony Perez, Cincinnati.

FLAG GAMES
First "World Olympics" of Flag Games, held in Italy, with variety of events including balancing flags on foot . . . tumbling . . . somersaulting . . . etc.

NEWARK RIOTS
Five days of race riots leaves Newark in a virtual state of siege. 24 are killed, 18 hundred wounded, 14 hundred arrested. Police, State Troopers, and National Guardsmen exchange shots with rooftop and window snipers; stores are wrecked, burned, and looted; cars overturned. Governor Hughes terms it "open rebellion."

MISS UNIVERSE
20-year old Sylvia Louise Hitchock, "Miss USA," wins the "Miss Universe" title in Miami Beach. 55 beauties from throughout the world competed. Runnerup: "Miss Venezuela,"

DANANG AIR BASE
A Vietcong rocket attack kills eight Americans, wounds 173, and destroys II aircraft at Danang Airbase, a vital Marine operation headquarters. The nighttime attack came from surrounding mountains. Fires started from secondary blasts by bombs and fuel.

FASHIONS
Young Italian designed Heinz Riva shows his fall and winter line in Rome's Piazza di Spagna. Everything from cocktail-length raincoat capes to brocade and silk evening dresses are on view.

BRITISH OPEN GOLF 44-year old Argentinean Roberto De Vicenzo wins the British Open with a four-round 278, beating Jack Nicklaus, defending champ, by two strokes° It's Roberto's first win in ten tries over nineteen years.

SUEZ
Israeli and Egyptian forces observe a temporary cease-fire while U.N. Truce Supervisors move into positions on both banks of the Suez Canal. In the midst of the calm, a huge buildup of tanks and artillery on both sides with canal navigation unresolved.

PLANE CRASH
An airliner and private plane collide over the North Carolina Mountains, killing 82 persons. Among the dead: New Navy Secretary John McNaughton, his wife, and son.

PUERTO RICO DEMO
Puerto Rico's Independence Party protests an upcoming plebescite which would show how many support statehood, the continuance of the commonwealth status, or a breakaway toward independence.

BLACK MARKET
In Saigon, a huge black market resists all efforts to eliminate illegal sale of American consumer goods, most of them headed for PX counters. Widespread corruption allows it to flourish.

PRINCESS GRACE
Prince Ranier and Princess Grace preside at "Monegasque National Day" at Expo '67. Accompanied by two of their three children, the royal visit is saddened by a sudden miscarriage.

FASHIONS
In Rome, Brioni shows his men's fashions for winter. Highlights: sports suits with 4-button jackets; furry car coats; and a frock-coat over a chalk-striped flannel suit.

'CYCLE RACE
British motorcyclists dominate the Grand Prix in Hohenstein, East Germany, with Phil Read taking first place in front of two other British racers. Average speed: 99 mph!

KAYAKS
The River Elbe in Czechoslovakia is the site for the World Water Slalom Championships. West Germany sweeps three events; Czechoslovakia takes the fourth. It's a wild, wet, rugged ride.
