March 1944, Allied officers confer prior to the Normandy invasion. Operation Tidal Wave, bombing raid on Ploesti oil fields and refineries in Romania. B-24 Liberator bombers operating from Libya North Africa bomb the Ploesti oil fields and refineries in Romania. Eight months after Operation, a systematic bombing campaign operating from bases in Italy destroyed most of the production capacity of the refineries in Romania.
