Standing Room Only - Homefront Travel During WWII
The war effort takes priority in transporting war materials and transportation of troops and the use of fuel. Crowds at a train station, sign "No Gas" at a service station, lines of people waiting to board a bus. Train rail cars loaded with tanks and military vehicles. Crowded troop train. Women aid the war effort by servicing and maintaining train engines.
On To Fortress Europe - Invasion Of Sicily Part 1
Preparations made to invade Sicily, troops boarding ship, invasion fleet underway, loading invasion barges. General Dwight D. Eisenhower at his Headquarters on Malta speaks to his officers. The 7th Army lead the invasion of Sicily. First heavy bombing, then naval barrage, landing on beachhead. Canadian Soldiers took the center of the attack. 7th Army soldiers hit the beach from landing crafts. Shows General George S. Patton following his troops ashore. Allied invasion forces of the 7th and 8th Armies advance, artillery firing. Soldier with mine detector sweeping road. Troops search deserted towns for the enemy.
